it is was people ask for. i think that "demands" would be right.

let's say, "free abortion no matter what" is a revendication :)

Also, I think it is ridiculous that the Conseil du Statut de la Femme decided that it was against women's rights to wear hijab. What about women's rights to practice their own religion?

How about a woman's right to her religion? How about a woman's right to not be culturally assimilated?

Exactly, thank you.

edited for grammar.

My Toronto/Iran originating friend recommended that book - he would agree with the author's beliefs from what I can tell from your summary - if it includes responses it might be interesting, worth looking up maybe?
Sorry my french reading is better than my writing.

The author wrote the initial, deeply problematic, essay. But the responses are what make the book brillant. Her reflection to the responses she got to the original essay also has its merits although it doesn't go as far as I would have hoped. One should never read just the initial essay on its own, unless you want a shining example of unchecked white privileged feminism.

Are you in Toronto? I am. I think I could find the book and lend it. I got it at the Women's Bookstore ~4 years ago. I don't know if they regularly carry it, I had to buy it for a course so its possible that's the only reason they had it in stock.

I just finished writing a paper about this. It's totally racist, Islamphobic bullshit, wrapped up in Québécois nationalism and sensationalist media reports.
