Fun with numbers, and other things.

I was uploading something on my account on Sendspace and too my astonishment saw that the pdf for The Doors of Time has been downloaded over 8700 times. Wow! I know it's been uploaded elsewhere as well (not sure why when they could just link to the original upload) so I guess I can add at least 100 downloads there, probably more, but it's easier ( Read more... )

Heee!

Just so you know, it does come with heavy warnings and deals with, among other things, mental problems. It's basically a PTSD fic, following severe child abuse. So, heavy and dark and not always pretty. But I tried to keep it... well, tactful. There are no descriptive scenes of the abuse, as it happened many years ago, but it is talked about and it occupies the characters' thoughts and influences their behaviour a lot. So, yeah.

See now why I'm so nervous about it? *buys lots and lots of alcohol*

You know life isn't always pretty and yes, fandom is a happy place but I also like to read real, gritty and something that packs a whallop and speaking as someone who has been there and earned the PTSD badge and has it encroaching on other areas of mental health, I want to read it and I think it would influence the character's behaviour so that is to be expected.

I get that your nervous but I trust you and your writing and am so looking forward to you posting :)

Well, I do hope it will live up to expectations but like I said, I'm quite nervous about it because it's very dark and heavy and aren't fic supposed to be our happy place? I don't know where I misplaced my funny bone, I haven't written comedy in ages. *sighs*

Wow! I loved the news and I'm looking forward to reading your monster baby.

And about Doors ... I know I have no right to ask this, but is there any chance of some file in MOBI soon?

Doors is one of my favorite stories and I state this for all who ask me good stories about J2, and I already have a PDF on my Ackindle (aka Kindle), but I would love to have the file into MOBI, because it is the format that I prefer read on my Ackindle.

This is just a question, if you have no intention of making a MOBI, I'm perfectly happy with my PDF. :)

Brazilian hugs! and congrats for all downloads of Doors!! :)

Thank you! I hope it will be worth the wait. :)

Here you go. :)

I don't know how fancy it'll be, I just ran it through Calibre, that's the only way I know how to make mobi files. Don't know if the chapters will be clickable etc. But if you're looking for a way to change pdf (an other) files into mobi or just any kind I really recommend Calibre. Free and easy to use. :)

Thank you so for the Kindle file. I have the PDF file on my Kindle so this is like a little bonus.

I must confess, I was wondering what you'd done with it, and was hoping that you hadn't just shelved it or something. I'm excited.

Honestly, I did wonder if I should, well not seriously because we've put so much work into it, but still yeah,a little because... I don't know. The enormity of the subject matter makes me nervous. But then again I was a nervous wreck when posting Doors because I was sure people would think it was too weird and I was very close to bailing when posting The Puzzle in case I'd offend someone...

Seriously, there's fic out there with so much weird shit, I don't know why I'm so afraid of backlash for mine. I need to take myself less seriously, I think.

On the other hand, the popularity of Doors makes people's expectations higher which makes me even more terrified of posting anything because that was probably the highpoint of my fic career and I'll never be able to go there again and... *hyperventilates*

*buys even more alcohol*

I'm surprised you haven't reached 10,000 already. It's one of my favorite fics ever.

Something new! That's really something to look forward to.

Aww, thanks. :)

Well, a lot of people read it on LJ, I think, since that way they get the music. Which should still work, although I should check that... But yeah, I have a counter on the epilogue (although I didn't think to put it there until a month after I posted, oops) and it's reached approx. 30.600 hits now. Which is just... wow.

It's a bit different with other stories since they're up on AO3 as well. Same goes for this new one, I will put it up on AO3 which means people can both read it there as well and download it if they'd rather. Makes it a bit more difficult to keep track. :)

As you can see I like numbers. lol
