"Finland, Finland, Finland. The country where I'd like to be..."

Calling out to my Finnish friends. I'm trying to find something to knit for my best friend for Xmas and this one seemed like something she could actually use. BUT it's only in Finnish. I tried running it through Google translate but a large part of it makes absolutely no sense whatsoever. *groans ( Read more... )

Oh, Ravelry, Oh, Ravelry, How I love thee, Ravelry.

::ahem::

I searched for "translate finnish knitting terms" on all forums, and came up with this page:

http://www.katajala.net/marjut/neuleet/sanasto.shtml

Given, it's english to finnish, but wth, you can just read backwards, right? Right.

And then this:

http://www.ravelry.com/discuss/ulla-knits/46259/1-25#8

Is a discussion/wishlist for patterns that have been translated / that people would like translated from finnish to english.

You do belong to Ravelry, right?

Luck!!

LOL

The terms list was a great help, thank you.

I didn't find the pattern already translated on the discussion list and I'm a bit shy to ask, at least if there's a chance I can figure it out myself since it's such a pretty easy pattern. And I think I have got most of it.

Only thin I'm a bit unsure about is the border. In the beginning they mention slipping and I think they mean I'm to slip the first stitch to make it easier to pick up stitches for the border. I remember doing something like that on something I was knitting years ago. Then there is some increasing in the border far as I can tell. Need to figure that out. Hmmm...

Shoot! I only saw this now. And I don't know how much help I can be since I know nothing of knitting. *blush*

I see you've already figured out most of it. As what comes to the part you still had trouble with it goes something like this

Kulmissa neulo 3 oikein, että voit seuraavalla krs:lla lisätä kulmasilmukan molemmille puolille yhden silmukan

In the corners knit 3k, so that you are able to add one stitch on both sides of the stitch in the corner on the following rounds.

Don't know if that makes any sense. Unfortunately my knowledge of knitting dates back to primary school and the one pair of mittens I did. Sorry.

Sorry, I saw this at work and then I forgot to answer when I finally got the chance.

Thank you, hon. It didn't really make much more sense, no. lol But I found somewhere else how you're supposed to knit corners so I'm just gonna go wih that. Thank you for trying anyway. *hugs*
