Squee-worthy:
- The defiance and sheer bloody-mindedness in Uncle Ming Gou Jian's eyes when he struggled to his feet right after collapsing when the ropes tying him to the post were cut.
- WEN ZHONG, the only one in the Yue court to keep his wits about him all the time (And who can admit when he hasn't considered all possibiities.)
- Bo Pi, in all his grasping/flattering/cultivating-future-king/strategic planning glory.
- 勾践想念大王"Gou Jian missed the High King." *flutters lashes*
- They actually used 献媚 to refer to Gou Jian's blandishments! *_*
- OMG the Feather Recitation so perfect in its OTT-hotness! (
rasetsunyo's
brilliant translation and screencaps). The diplomatic (intentional?) faux pas of sitting ambassadors (their faces XD) with the disgraced captives of a conquered state. And Fu Chai = dazzled and confused.
- AWWW, WU ZI XU you so sweet to your ickle boy-boy. But you're still a bloodthirsty old bastard.
- "Pleese Mumsies don't go we still wuv u. You did for us what even dear old dad who hated my guts wouldn't do."
"I have no personal grudge against that shameless hussy Gou Jian but you must divorce kill him for the sake of this country!"
"But Mummy dearest even though you're worth more than a hundred of him, he can still perform great services for me..." (I couldn't make this up if I tried)
- The eternal triangle XD
Not so squee-worthy:
- as
flemmings says, what kind of self-control, what kind of determination does it take to subsume all your instincts and training, and abase yourself so completely that not the slightest crack shows on the surface? I think Gou Jian realized from the cliff incident that Fu Chai wouldn't kill him for almost any reason: Fu Chai keeps telling himself (and everyone else) that it's because Gou Jian still has his uses; Gou Jian while knowing this to be partly true also can see that it's because Fu Chai needs his submission to feel truly at ease and complacent. And the latter is why he then goes overboard in showing his "devotion" and "humility" - underestimating Wu Zi Xu and, in a way, Fu Chai as well.
Until WZX tells him that his son has been killed (who WZX found out about because his behaviour prompted the officials to urge Hao Jin to anoint Yu Yi king), whereupon he continues playing his part, but there seems to be a
completely different, almost-inhuman intelligence behind the mask of the humble servant, which must be motivated only by revenge.
- having seen too many Chinese drama serials in my misspent youth, guessed what Yuan Luo was going to do when the Wu soldiers barged in, from the moment she started gazing mistily at the boys and saying that Jia Yang was the spitting image of Ling Gu Fu and would *grow up* to be the pride of her life etc. Actually thought they would pull it off, too, but Hao Jin (who was so good earlier when he gave up his fluoresecent paperweight) is not quick enough on the uptake.
- have given up counting the assassination attempts. Right now am just waiting for the OTP to have some quality time together and the tide to turn against the evil mother-in-law WZX.
