It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for . . .

For quite a while, izhilzha has been wanting me to make this post. So Izhi? Here it is. The research was difficult *ahem*, but I muddled through and (hopefully) prevailed ( Read more... )

Now this is good thinking material(yeah, that's my story and I'm sticking to it) but I think the emotions are different in each case;

Cassie and Dean - two old lovers hooking up for what turns out to be "break up sex."

Madison and Sam - after an intense weekend of will I have to kill her? Will I have to die? Repreive! Release of adrenaline!

Ruby and Sam - another friend meta'd that Sam at this point was a suicide trying to find a way to die. Did he care? Hell, no (*cough*) It was no-holds-barred, scary, angry sex.

Dean and Anna - well the whole "last night of your life" thing.

I just don't think there should be a label of "rough sex, hurts partner" slapped on Sam because there was extenuating circumstances in both cases. I don't like the idea that Sam may have been painfully mauling Jessica all those years ago. . .

The circumstances don't entirely account for Sam's differing style, imho, and it's not like he and Madison didn't have plenty of time together if he/they had wanted to take it sweet and slow--they spend most of that day in bed ( ... )

Dean, when he really cares about someone, wants to take care of them. It makes utter sense to me that he would be an attentive lover. And Sam has a better grasp of his own self-esteem, knows what he wants, and isn't shy about going for it--both in life and in the bedroom.

Yes! Exactly. Maybe you should have written this meta.

That's Jamie in your icon, yes?

No, I shouldn't have written this meta, you did a great job. I just linked to it, in fact; maybe you'll get some additional visitors. *g*

But you and I basically say the same thing: how much it deepens the characterization, both by turning the natural expectation on its head (Dean is sweeter, Sam is more experimental) and by being in keeping with the general approach each guy has to life. *glee*

Darn it -- I couldn't read the second half since we won't get 4.09/4.10 here until next year, but two things (besides perhaps the actors' own preferences for how much skin they're willing to show the world, and network censorship) came to my mind ( ... )

Perhaps Dean's interest in Cassie isn't so much from porn

Oh, I don't think it is. I'm just saying that the visual component of sex seems to be important to Dean, watching his partner, making eye contact with her, that sort of thing.

She's an animal at heart, with little time left before she changes completely, so it becomes fevered, rushed and aggressive.

But at the point in the story when the scene takes place, they all think she's been cured. No need to rush, and she and Sam spend the entire day in bed.

who made the initial physical move?

Well, she's the one who throws herself at him for the initial kiss, and after getting that green light, Sam spins her around and has her up against the wall.

I do hope you can come back after you see this season's eps. If for no other reason than to let me know you've seen them. :-)

Yes, but what I'm suggesting is that, given he closes his eyes when he kisses everyone else (your icon), perhaps he's committing this event to memory. But, yes, we have been told repeatedly that Dean likes the female form.

But at the point in the story when the scene takes place, they all think she's been cured.

I reckon it's foreshadowing. The audience is being told that they haven't cured her, despite what the boys think. The lazy day of sex is a mistake: she'll change and revert to a more aggressive (natural) state when her time comes.

As for Sam spinning her around: he was horny and hadn't been laid in like FORever. Plus, he has to have something to throw back in Dean's face. ;)

Oh, you'll know I've seen them. I will be so relieved that 90210 is off the air and SPN is back.

Eyes open or closed during kissing was interesting to try to pin down, because I really couldn't. Dean seems to do both, though admittedly, it seems to be when he's taken by surprise that he keeps them open. Since the Cassie scene is shot in shadow, I couldn't tell if his eyes were open or closed when he kissed her. Each of the other times, the long, lingering kisses have been accompanied by closed eyes, the better to concentrate on the sense of touch.

I can't really say any more about watching his partner during foreplay and sex without spoiling you for 4.10. So, when you've seen that one, come back and we'll discuss. :-)

As an aside, why, oh why, did anyone think reviving 90210 would be a good idea?

Yaaay you posted it!

I like that by accident or design, the boy's love scenes were shot and choreographed in a way that reflects and illuminates character. *pets the directors, even if they didn't do it on purpose*

Can I just say that I love that Sam's a biter? Rawr. It really is the quiet ones you have to watch out for (which I guess means that I am a harmless little thing and can be safely ignored). I believe I have already told you about my reaction to the scene in "Heart" yes? I think it actually blue-screened my brain for a second. Hi, Sam's muscles! *waves*

Always happy to make note of the exact disposition of the boys' eyelids during sex for you! *grin* Oh, and it occurred to me also that part of the turn-on for Dean, and part of the reason for keeping his eyes open might be the Damn I'm Good Effect, i.e. seeing how awesome one is making one's partner feel can appreciably increases one's own enjoyment. Although I like you're theory that it's attentiveness better because it makes me want to smish Dean. Again. Some more.

I can see this, especially with his random bar hook-ups. Both are out for nothing more than a good time, and if he can see them having a good time, because he's giving them a good time (and vice versa) . . . yeah, I can see that. That particular interpretation also lends itself to further analysis of his self-esteem issues, which are too many and varied to get into here.

Although I like you're theory that it's attentiveness better

Meh, I don't think one is mutually exclusive from the other. Though if we're taking the two suppositions together, I think there's likely more of the Damn, I'm Good Effect with the randoms, and more genuine enjoyment of his partner and attentiveness to her with girls he cares more deeply about.

Did that make sense?

Yes, makes sense. *grin*

I kind of want to to go re-watch "Route 666". Or maybe just the scenes with Cassie. Or maybe just the scenes with Cassie where she's not just Exposition With Legs. Oh, and the bit where Sam pokes fun at Dean for having a relationship that lasted longer than a week. Oh, and the scene where he drives the Impala into the ruins of the church to get rid of the Possessed Racist Truck. Because that was a pretty great scene. But I'm not watching the whole ep because I just...possessed racist truck? *shakes head*

Great observation and it matches with other analysis of characters. It's already canon somehow that Dean is tender lover so i'm glad to see another proof to it. And most of all i like he likes to please women. That's my boy :)
