It's the quiet ones you have to watch out for . . .
For quite a while, izhilzha has been wanting me to make this post. So Izhi? Here it is. The research was difficult *ahem*, but I muddled through and (hopefully) prevailed.

Okay.
This topic of conversation came about after I watched “Heart.” At that point, we have been treated to one love scene each for each of the Boys. And I was struck by how differently each of the boys makes love to his partner, and how their styles are actually the opposite of what one might expect given their characters.
Now, a lot of this has to do with lighting and cinematography and the choreography of the scenes. Let’s recognize that right now. Also, I’m only going to address the on-screen romances first. I’ll make mention of Dean’s off-screen liaisons later.
Here we go.
Basically, I found it interesting that the brother who is the womanizing playboy is the one who takes things sweet and slow and traditional, while Sam, the quiet, reserved brother is the one who likes it rough, so to speak. I tell ya, it’s the quiet ones you gotta watch out for.
First, we have Dean in “Route 666,” making love to his former paramour Cassie. Now, lack of chemistry between the actors notwithstanding, this is a beautiful little scene. Shot in silhouette, it’s passionate, intense, but not frenzied.
She makes the first move; Dean does not press any sort of advantage to get her going. The sex, as I said, is passionate, but not hurried. Dean lets her take the lead, allowing her to be on top before rolling her over. He’s soft and sweet and attentive, and he lets her lips wander, and he enjoys what she does. He also appears to prefer the more traditional positions for the act. (As an aside, I note that he never takes off his amulet.) The afterglow cuddling is conversation, during which he absently strokes her arm gently (and we get backstory).
What this tells me about Dean is, contrary to his reputation, when it’s a woman he cares more deeply about-not some random bar hook-up-he’s sweet and gentle and traditional.
It’s also been noted that Dean keeps his eyes open (thanks to kalquessa for noting that detail). This indicates to me that watching his partner is a turn-on for him. And what woman doesn’t want to be a turn-on for her man? (It could also be related to his affinity for porn, internet porn and porn mags and movies being visual media.)
Then we have Sam and Madison in “Heart.” And wow. Talk about hot and heavy. This scene is brightly lit and far more aggressive and aggressively shot . . . there’s just more to this scene than the previous. Madison makes the first move. After that, all bets are off. He’s got her up against the wall, and they can’t get naked fast enough. The sex is passionate and frenzied, like they can’t get enough of each other soon enough. Sam’s on top first, before they roll over. Sam nips at her with his teeth; she bites on his lip. Fingers dig into flesh. There’s a great deal of motion and movement, and Sam appears to prefer a somewhat less traditional (though by no means “kinky”) position as he comes to her from behind. Sam seems to like it a little “rougher” than his brother does.
Now that’s not to say that Sam isn’t attentive. He’s very aware, and relishes the tactility of the act, as evidenced by the fact that he keeps his eyes closed (again, thanks to Cheese Elf for noticing). They sleep peacefully in their afterglow, Madison’s head pillowed on Sam’s arm. (And dang but that’s a beautiful shot.)
Then we get the two most recent scenes, practically back-to-back, and I’m delighted that, the demonic/angelic natures of their partners notwithstanding, my observation holds true.
First, we have Sam and Ruby, whose on-screen snogfest I covered in my recap of the ep. But let’s look at it as it fits into Sam’s style, shall we? Sam is an aggressive lover. After his initial resistance, when he gives in to Ruby’s seduction, it’s again a frantic, can’t-happen-fast-enough, right then and there encounter. Sam pulls her to straddle his lap, they rip off each other’s clothes, Sam grabs her hair, and they can’t get there fast enough. He clings to her, buries his face in her neck, and it’s the hot and heavy sex that I expect from Sam.
Then we have Dean and Anna, and again it’s the slow, sweet savoring of the moment. Again, she makes the first move, and once she does, he’s right there. He lays her down gently, and they take their own shirts off. (Dean also removes his amulet and lays it on the back deck.) He watches her as he slowly removes her jeans. His kisses are long, deep, and passionate, and then she’s on top of him. He caresses her back, her arms, and drinks her in with his eyes. It’s the slow, soft, attentive lovemaking I expect from Dean.
The Dean we see on screen with women he cares about beyond the superficial is in complete contrast with the reputation Dean has with his one night (or weekend long) hook-ups. The twins, for example, in “Magnificent Seven.” And of course there’s Lisa Braeden, with whom he got sidetracked from his road trip to spend a weekend in her loft. “The bendiest weekend of my life,” Dean says. They were definitely trying some . . . less traditional . . . positions. And the story Lisa tells, “The Dean. ‘The best night of my life’ Dean” indicates that Lisa also had a good time. But when she invites him to stay, and she's more than just a random hook-up, she's Ben's mother, possibly the mother of Dean's child, the kiss they share is soft and sad.
And then there's Jamie. Though we have no indication if Dean and Jamie’s night together was slow and sweet or more bendy, if their goodbye kisses are any indication, I'm thinking it was on the languid and lingering side, though I like to think it was somewhere in the middle. It was obviously enjoyable for both of them, if their departure the following morning was any indication.
I just find this all very interesting from a character point of view. It gives the Boys layers that one wouldn’t necessarily expect, in an unexpected contrast.
And as izhilzha points out below: "Dean, when he really cares about someone, wants to take care of them. It makes utter sense to me that he would be an attentive lover. And Sam has a better grasp of his own self-esteem, knows what he wants, and isn't shy about going for it--both in life and in the bedroom."
And the research isn't wholly unenjoyable, either.
