Oh. :-( This is very disappointing. From outside, it looked very promising. It was the one that I thought had more potential for Channing. Maybe there really were problems with the script in spite of the interesting premise. Tom Hardy is a very interesting actor, I respect his talent, but he can be difficult, as director Innaritu could attest ( there was this story about how the actor one day punched the perfectionist/obsessive director out of exasperation during The Revenant' shooting...)
In the meantime, I feel sorry for Channing. I hope he will find something else as or more satisfying. Following actors I'm interested in makes me discover how complicated and arduous it is to complete a film project.
Tom Hardy doesn't have the best reputation with the press. I read some other stories about him being not so nice. Anyway, I just hope Channing will have better luck with his future movies.
You know what ? I kept thinking about it and I feel a bit uncomfortable if it really fell because of salary issues. I hope quick money is not more important than working on an interesting movie. Then again, I don't have all the elemements in hand.
My understanding after reading the original report is that Paramount Studio did not do well recently. Their profit was the bottom of the six big studios last year. Also the recent Ghost in the Shell movie was a flop in the US market. Then the previous CEO was fired. That guy was a champion for Triple Frontier, but the new one does not want to spend too much on this type of movie. Then they dropped the project.
It does not seem that Hardy or CT requested more money than they are supposed to have. It's just that they are not cheap to hire. Plus they do not like the revised script. You see, the actors attached to this project previously were older, like Will Smith and Johnny Depp, so they had to change something. I still think the main reason CT and Hardy dropped out is script.
