Will China Save JA?

Last week JA was released in China and made 23.2M, which was more than what it earned in North America during the first weekend. So will Chinese viewers save JA? It will help the movie, but I am not sure it can make money back after the complete theatrical run (It has made 152M so far, with a reported budget of 176M). It has not yet open in Japan. I wish I could have seen JA in the theater. Will have to wait for when it comes to tv.

I was thinking the other day that for all its flaws JA is no worse than the original star wars in terms of dialogue, plot and acting. I really do believe the people that say JA gets hate because it is a girl fantasy rather than a boy fantasy.

But Hunger Games series, Divergent series are also female centric stories, they don't get that much hate because they are girl fantasies. Or do you mean a girl fantasy story gets more hate when it is badly written?

I hope they win some of the invested money back.
But whether or not the movie is successful in Asia, they lost face in Hollywood. Oh well.

I agree with you about the fandom. Unfortunately, I haven't found stories that I find significant. As you say, a lot of MarySues. Also, yeah, not enough partners for Caine. Stinger is very interesting but not present enough in the film. Balem could have had potentail, but they don't even share a scene.
