Rafa lost his first RR. That makes me sad. The fact that it was The Evil One Who Shall Not Be Named that beat him makes me sadder. So, let's ignore that match and concentrate on the Happy Stuff ( Read more... )

How cute, and the trophy is beautiful. :) In the 2005 pictures Rafa looks so exotic, and hot, and did I say hot?

Rafa being out of form and press jumping at his losses,
I thought I post a wonderful letter from a Federer fan
to all Rafa fans + comments. A great Fedal fan love !

Thanks for posting. Very good article by a Federer fan who has respect for Rafa, too. (Seems to be a rare breed these days).

Although I am somewhat "over" feeling sympathy for Roger about his losses, I never thought that his career was in the toilet last year, despite all of the negative press. He was just having a bad stretch, which can happen to anyone, even "The Greatest."

I agree that media coverage is often simplistic and prone to moving on to the next big thing--Djokovic, Murray, Soderling, Del Potro. Next we'll be hearing about how great Davydenko is. As for the comments on tennis forums, I rarely go to them anymore because they are so nasty. I get tired of the numerous threads that are basically variations of "I hate Roger" or "I hate Rafa."

That's exactly why that letter is so beautiful. It's referring to what happened to Roger beginning this year after his loss at the AO final, trashing a racket out of frustration included. A whole lot of so called Fed fans left him, even on rf.com !
Now the same thing happens to Rafa but I'm sure he will come through as wonderful as Roger did. That's probably the main reason why I love those two so much. They just never give up !

Roger was patient, and I think Rafa will be too. I wish that more people would give them a break when they hit bad patches. (I've become less willing to giver Roger a break over some of his interview comments, but that's another story.)

I'm not surprised about some of Federer's fans and their "loyalty." I know that this is not a popular opinion, but it seems to me that certain Fed fans take on Roger's success as their own. Thus, when he fails, they want nothing to do with him. I'm sure many of them jumped back on the bandwagon as soon as he won the FO and Wimbledon, however. I hope that Rafa's fans will hang in there with him and not be fairweather fans.
