I almost went batty trying to find a realistic tactical sim for WWII, i.e. without building bases and having to work up to having tanks.

Ended up with Blitzkrieg 1 - version 2, apparently went all arcade and lost the sense of the realism.

CoD was always nicely believable as a WWII FPS. The D Day levels of the first game are real classics. This time around, not so much.

Steel Panthers was the best WWII tactical game (on the PC) I have ever played.

Top down sim, individual tanks, vehicles, artillery pieces and infantry at squad level (owed a huge amount to Avalon Hill's Squad Leader).

Battles on the company or at most batallion level. Great game.

They made it 'bigger' and screwed it up of course in later versions.

I'm only buying COD7 if they have a surfing level ... :-)
