Seeing Hal disappear in front of him had brought back all of Niko's memories regarding Cal's disappearance to Tumulus and for a man who tried his best to sublimate anger and fear into zen, it had been difficult. Hal was not as close as Cal, not by far, but in training the boy and seeing Cal look out for his well-being, Niko had formed a connection, a relationship that wasn't easily severed. That, coupled with the anxiety he already felt about this very situation had driven him out into the rain to clear his head and try to find out where, exactly, Hal had disappeared to.

Neil said that people came and went on the island by whim. Surely Hal, who had only been there about as long as he and Cal, couldn't be ready to disappear? Why so early, when there were people like Neil who had been around for years or more? It made little in the way of sense and Niko had always taken comfort in the things that, while not explainable, were comprehensible on some level. This was neither.

His wandering led him to Susan's door, well on the far side of the island, and he hoped that she too hadn't been stricken by the disappearances. Niko felt in his bones it wasn't a true disappearance, just a trick like the bodyswitching had been, but it was still nervewracking all the same.

"Susan? Are you here?"

He hoped.
