I've decided I'm going to get another animal companion. Lady K was such a great friend and I still want a buddy to go through the next 10-20 years with me and live our lives. I still cannot reconcile another cat, they would all be unfairly compared to Lady K because she was perfect. So, I'm going to get a dog. Which is what I originally intended

My 2-cents: your place is way too small for anything other than a super-miniature dog, and you should never get a dog when your lifestyle is unstable... you won't have the ability to care for it appropriately when you're working and in school.

That said, just my 2-cents... but I *strongly* feel that dogs, like kids, should only come when your life is stable and predictable. Cats are very very different.

All of the reading that I see, expresses this dog to be much more similar to a cat than a dog. And it's not very big, that's it's full size right there.

But yes, I would prefer a larger space for my new little buddy to be, which has to do with the fact that one of the things I've decided for myself is that I'd like to actually live with someone. Living by myself has been great for self-discovery, but I think for a while I will prefer to live with someone. And of course that will come along with a 2-bedroom place.

Shibas are super-active and need good excersize every day -- definitely not like a cat in that regard. I've thought about getting one myself because they're so damn cute and reasonably low maintenance as far as dogs go, but given *my* issues and travel schedule I know I'd come to resent it in short order. :P

Ironic in that I don't think all Japanese dog breeds are called (Fill In The Blank) Dog. I know next to nothing abotu Japanese dogs, so i could be wrong.

Also, that's a small Shiba, they are generally bigger than the one in that photo. Not HUGE...just bigger.

There are 3 kinds of breeds. This is the smallest of the three. This one is full size.

If you decide not to get a dog, and a cat really is out of the question, how about a python? They're really low maintenance! Though not very loving or attentive.
