This is good.
There is one change I think you should make.
Delete the last line--" Billie means ‘protector,’ you know.”
It's not necessary and the name meaning bit is a pulp fiction hack.

Since I already submitted the piece last night, I cannot make any more edits to the piece until the week is over. Doing so would be cheating.

I'm personally unfamiliar with pulp fiction or hacks attributed to it, but I have found name meanings and discussions of to be fascinating since I was a child. I have brought up that kind of trivia in conversations irl, because I watched preachers and public speakers do so from the pulpit as a child, and figured it normal.

So I guess Julian's line is stemming from something I might have said if I were in that particular conversation, but it could be reflective of a different era.

This gives me something to think about though, and I appreciate your feedback.

You do a good job with your writing. You should consider doing some short stories and seeing if you can sell them.
