So, hubby and I will be vacationing in southern Cali for 8-9 days the last week of August, and I definitely plan to do some shopping! :) We live in AZ and have family in Cali, so we go to Cali at least once per year. I'm already familiar with several of the plus size hotspots from our frequent trips ( Read more... )

It seems like you've got a great start on places. I never had much luck in the LA Garment District. I didn't see many plus sized options there and a lot of what I came across was pretty poor quality but you may have better luck. If you get up to the Pasadena area, the Macy's on Lake Avenue has a great plus department and there's also a Talbot's Woman there where I sometimes had good luck. There's a Ross across the street that often has a great plus sized dress selection. I also found good things at the Nordstrom Rack in northern Pasadena. There's an Avenue and a Ross in the same plaza but the Ross on Lake Avenue in Pasadena often has a better selection. There's a very inexpensive, trendy but not high quality plus sized place in Pasadena called Two Trees and Fish (I have no idea where the name came from! It used to be Casual Plus) but you may not find your size there. It's more Junior's sizing though there are a few racks of 4 and 5X ( ... )

thank you so much for your suggestions! I may check out the Two Trees & Fish store, I know my husband would love to see the Rose Bowl stadium so I can probably convince him to take me over to Pasadena lol. The Nordstrom Rack stores here in Phoenix all seem to have stopped carrying plus sizes, so I'd like to check them out too. I know I'll be going to the one at Mission Valley in San Diego, and they've always had a decent selection of plus. A few years ago I found out they had Svoboda jeans there, so I had my sister (who lives in SD) go there, pick out the cutest pairs in my size and send them to me. :)

Do you happen to remember any sellers with nice looking knockoff designer bags in the Garment District? I heard people do sell those there, but it's hit or miss depending on how many police are milling around.

I don't really remember specifics about bags in the garment district, sorry! Pasadena is really pretty and a fun place to check out. Old Town is great to walk around in and shop and people watch. Not a lot of plus options right there but lots of fun shops none the less. If you get a chance, the tour of the Gamble House is interesting and it's right by the Rose Bowl and if you like Spanish food/Tapas/Sangria, I highly recommend La Luna Negra for lunch or dinner while you're in the area.

I was very disappointed in the Abundance. It's extremely expensive, and super shapeless and drapey. But I will admit that second part is my bias. If you're OK with super drapey and have a bunch of money, give them a try. When I went there they did have lots of natural fibers and colors, so there's a positive.

The Garment district is fabulous if you're looking for fabric. If you're looking for actual ready to wear, it's all cheap poly stuff, mostly straight or "jr." plus size.

Thanks for the feedback on Abundance! It kind of looked that way on their website, too, but I wanted to ask about others' experiences. I really like that rayon/modal jersey fabric, and it looked like they may have had a few tops like that on their site, but idk if I want to pay those prices for it (nor do I want to wear a tent...) Might skip them.

Do you remember if there are any sellers of nice knockoff designer bags in the Garment District? I'm seriously wanting a Chanel tote but will never, ever be able to afford a real one :)
