Bras- Absolutely Desperate for Help! :(

Hi everyone! I am so desperate for some bra help. Right now, my 40DD/42DD bras from Fredricks of Hollywood are too big (not to mention they are all so worn out!) They lift away from my chest, and the straps fall down. My problem area is my back, as I have some back fat that I like my bras to "hug," this way my back looks smooth. If i tighten the ( Read more... )

The best place I have been to for a bra fitting is a store called Intimacy. I've been fitted at several of the places the other posters mention and the experience I had there was better than all of those combined.

When I went in, I didn't think they would have anything that would fit me so I was a bit skeptical at first. After I got fitted, though, I was pleasantly surprised that there were several styles they had in stock that fit. The best part? If you purchase a bra (and I warn you, they're pricey), and your size changes, for the life of the bra you get free alterations.

I would absolutely agree with you on the Avenue bras. They tend to have wider back straps and 3-5 hooks in back which help with a smooth line. I also like their general cup shapes as they aren't too pointy, aren't too full coverage, but aren't too demi-coverage, either. All of the Avenues in MN closed, so I'm waiting for a trip to FL to visit my sister for more bra shopping at Avenue.

You may also have some luck with Soma if you have one in your area. I love their bras! Nordstrom has always been good for me as well.

I recommend local bra store for sure, too. I got fitted and the clerk could just tell by looking at me, and I've been wearing the same size and style for years since then. Best part is that once you have a brand and style that you know fit, you can safely buy online. I wear Elomi and can even switch styles without trying on first, I buy at figleaves.com.

If your priority is how your back looks, also try loosening the straps and wearing your breasts lower so that the back fits better. The fashion is for really pushed up breasts right now, which means the band has to cut in a lot to stay in place, or else it rides up your back. But that's also something an indie bra fitting can help with, it's not just the size it's adjusting it to fit you.

Have you tried Macys? When I went they helped me find this bra

deff one of the most comfortable bra's I've ever worn! I think it also depends on the manufacturer when it comes to size. I usually wear 44C, but the 42D fit perfectly for that brand.
