Bra problem

Mar 22, 2013 00:05

I've recently developed a problem with wearing my bras (over the past three weeks). Under my right arm, below my armpit, my side has been going numb and it goes up into my arm and hand. If I pull the bottom part away from my side the feeling comes back but not in my arm unless I massage it and move it around. My arm is still feeling weird even when ( Read more... )

Have you tried going braless, like maybe on a weekend at home to see if it goes away. If not get checked by a doc because a unilateral numbness on the right side concerns me a little.

Yep, I tried it for a week then started wearing it like I normally do (most of the day & take it off at night) and it started up again.

I have a similar problem when I'm dealing with minor edema in my right arm.

Granted, I have a blood clotting problem and have had two blood clots in my right arm in the last 6 years, which sometimes makes bra wearing a bit of a challenge for me.

Make sure you're wearing the right size of bra. Also, if the problem persists, go to a doctor. Seriously. 'cause it could be any number of things and you don't want it to get Really Bad.

Also: *sends digital hugs*

I think I'm wearing the right size, though I might have gained some weight since it's been about half a year since I got new ones. But I didn't think it would affect anything out of the blue like this.

Yeah I won't be able to go to a doctor until I move in a month or so. Unless of course it gets really bad...

Personally I wouldn't put it off that long, but do what you feel you must. If this has been going on like this already for more than two weeks, don't wait. Go to an urgent care if you have to. It's better to be absolutely sure than not.

Try putting a pillow under your arm while you're typing and sitting. Also, try to keep the affected arm free from pressure if you can; ie, don't sleep on that arm. See if icing the area down helps at all. And keep an eye out for any sort of colour changes in the skin of the affected arm; if your arm starts to lean toward purple, get medical help. That discolouration could mean a blood clot, and those are Not Fun.

I would try a different/new bra. Possibly you are bloated which is making your bra constrictive? Have you a softer bra you could wear? Try cutting put sodium for a whole to see if that makes a change.

I'm currently trying my sports bra that I forgot I had and my arm isn't tingling nor is my side going numb and it's been two hours so we'll see how it goes.

I too had thought that I was bloated as my period came but it usually settles down after a week so idk.

Numbness that goes down the arm and hand is often a sign of a pinched nerve, so you should definitely see a doctor. It may or may not go away by itself.

Ah that would totally happen, my posture has been terrible lately. Thanks, I'll look into that!

I've had a similar thing happen and it ended up being a pinched nerve in my back (down to taking the bra off feeling better!) and it was a sign the elastic in the bra was wearing out and putting too much of the weight of my boobs (34J) on my shoulders, pulling the muscles from the spine . It may also be the underwire is hitting you in an odd place (I have wide breasts and most underwires actually do not encompass my whole boob so it does this arm poke thing that results in a number of issues).

Yeah that might be it, my posture has been terrible lately (gotta strengthen those back muscles i suppose).

My underwire starts poking after a few months and it has been getting worse lately, I do need new ones. I'll have to toss these ones. :]

Thanks!
