I've been waffling over whether to come post here for help for over a month, and today I figured I'd bite the bullet and just do it instead of crafting the elaborate post I had planned

Oh, and if you don't see anyone at Sephora that you think would be a good fit for you, you can also schedule make-overs and mini-consultations at department stores such as Macy's, Nordstrom, etc. Again... go there first and find an employee at a cosmetic counter who's makeup you like. The only downside there is that there's so much less to choose from (with Sephora... the MA has the entire store at her disposal... with a department store, each MA usually has just one brand).
This is excellent advice on the makeup, thank you very very much!
I'll also check out We Love Colors! I have some super cute dresses that I want to wear now that the weather's warming up, but had no tights or anything to wear them with.. this will help. :D
Catherine's for shapewear and tights (although they may not have much in the way of tights this time of year...still worth a look). They also have bras in the actual store with a band size above 48. They're not so much pretty, but they are functional.
As far as accessories, you might check out Wal-Mart & Target...they have some fun inexpensive costume jewelry, and it won't kill your budget. Avenue also is worth a look as far as jewelry and shoes. For makeup, check Ulta as well - their house-brand stuff isn't horrible, and they're always having sales where stuff is buy 2 get 2 free. I believe they have makeover people as well.
Pretty much what out_of_focus said on the makeup. I worked for six months in a Macy's right next to the cosmetics department, and I noticed that the MAC makeup artists all had the brightest makeup. So even though their makeup is great, I'd recommend avoiding them. The Sephora artists at my local store also use bright makeup, but it may just be an individual store thing.
The most important thing is to talk with the makeup artist and let them know what you want - emphasize that you're going for a more natural look and DO NOT want bright colors or a lot of makeup.
I have three Sephora stores pretty close to me.... in one of them, makeup tends to be even more bold then most MAC stores. At the other two, most have fairly natural makeup and never wear bright colors. Makes me wonder if it doesn't have something to do with who is managing the stores.... but I suppose it is just coincidence.
Could be? The young ladies at our Ulta had very subdued, nice makeup and hair. But I've been to some department stores where the ladies looked like they were about to go onstage (Because theatre makeup has to be brighter, more overdone, etc so you can see it).
I wear assets, which are like spanx? but I'm unsure of how large they go, so I'm not much help with the bulge. But both of those dresses are really freaking cute

I have a brand new brush set, and I have complete confidence in doing eyes... it's just everything else that boggles me. :)
Thank you for the youtube links!! I tried looking at some, but then decided it was like typing 'makeup' into google- a wealth of information and I just didn't know where to start. :D
