Old Navy confuses me greatly, and more.

Hi fatshionistas! My name is Orchid, and I've been lurking here for a while now but haven't posted yet because my wardrobe is...well...fail. I'm working on it, but my shape is kind of hard to deal with. At 5'4" and something like 260 pounds with a bust measurement around 52" the fact that I am the owner of a pair of b-cup boobies makes it ( Read more... )

For comfy curvy practice wear (or under layers if you're rocking a non-bedlah look), try FaveWear-- it's owned and run by a bellydancer, and my teacher and my troupemates all swear by the pants and cholis. (I haven't gotten a chance to try any of her stuff yet, but it looks great on everyone I've seen it on.)

For performance wear, are you looking for a bedlah? Skirts and pantaloons? Cholis? Hip scarves? All of the above? I'm a tribal girl, so I can't really help you on the plus sized bedlah option, but for everything else, L. Rose Designs and SharifWear go up to larger sizes. If you have a sewing machine or know someone who does, though, pantaloons and circle skirts are totally easy to do on your own.

Ebay and Bhuz.com are great resources too-- worth keeping an eye out on both of them.

Thanks so much for the links! The FaveWear made me smile right off the bat not only because of the pictures of cute stuff right on the front page (sadly out of my price range though but good inspiration), but because apparently they're based out of Portland, OR- that's where I live. :)

I don't really know what I'm looking for, which is what makes it so hard. *eyeroll at self* I'm mostly just looking for inspiration, I guess. ...and as I type that I just realized I never tried looking on Pinterest, hmm. But anyway, yeah. All of the above, mostly. I've been thinking of wearing a choli with a cami underneath and a hip scarf for class but that's basically replacing my current deep v-neck t-shirt and cami with a choli and cami. Boooring! I do love to sew though so when I finally figure out what it is I'm looking for I'll be able to make it.

I wear a 20-22 and I can fit in the XL long pajama pants that I've had for a couple years.

ON is not good with consistent sizing either, as I ordered XL long pants in black and gray and the black was way shorter than the gray yet the tags both said XL long.

Sometimes I can fit in the XL tops, but usually I prefer to size up as I need room for the boobs.

Wow, fail. Thanks for sharing your experience, and I'm glad to hear about the PJ pants because I've got my eye on them, too.

I'm a 24 on top and a 26 on the bottom. Similar in size and shape to you, although quite a bit taller. I fit into an XXL in a lot of their tops and dresses. Sometimes an XL in some tops! It's nice to be able to shop brick and mortar. I will say that when I've found 2x and 3x ON items in outlet stores and such they're always SO horrible as sizing goes. I have a 3x top that's smaller than ALL of the XXLs I own. I will NEVER buy any of the plus size stuff online because sizing is so wonky.

Oh, I agree so much about brick and mortar shopping being nicer. I've actually never bought clothing online before because I can just never even guess by looking at something how it will look on my shape. Thanks for sharing your experience with sizing, I had no idea it was so unpredictable until I asked here!

hummm..I may have to give the XXL a go. I've recently gotten smaller, so I'm in a "I don't know what fits me!!" panic, especially since I know, for me, relying on sizing charts is almost useless (especially at ON). I might sneak in this weekend and try on a shirt to see!

Hello,

Besides designing and making swimsuits for plus sizes, i also have belly dancewear shop on Etsy. http://www.etsy.com/shop/ByRoDancewear

I am in the process of revamping it with new designs and skirts. I make all sizes from S-L through 1x-4x. Let me know if I can help. :)
