Sketchers Shapeups

Has anyone tried the Sketchers Shapeups? I'm more interested in the posture/toning than the potential for weight loss. Most of the reviews I've read on them claim they're the the best shoe evar, but I'm sure there's got to be a downside to them (other than price. I have a really hard time spending $100 on shoes ( Read more... )

i got them actually hoping that they would correct some joint issues that i have - bad posture issues and then a weird hip thing - and they are AWESOME - i have no complaints not one. i even wear them without socks and they don't give me blisters. plus my back feels better and my hip and knees feel better and it's awesome. and then i go back to my old shoes and after a couple of days the ow and the slouch comes back so i am a faithful wearer.

Joint issues, really? I seem to have problems with ankles/knees (the ankles have always been a problem, even before i put on a bunch of weight). That's really good to know.

Darn, I was thinking about the Reebok ones as they're so much nicer to look at and you can customize them. Perhaps that's the end of the appeal, though.

I would want to go for the effect over the style I think. Aside from the gym, I basically live in heels and other "cute" shoes. I know Shapeups aren't for the gym, but if I had to wear sneakers outside of that, I would want there to be a darn good reason.

I have a pair of the shape-up sandals and I love them. they are the most comfortable sandals I own, barring an uncomfortable break in period (but that was due to the thong, not the shoe as a whole). If the sneakers are as comfortable as the sandals, I recommend them.

Ha - I just bought the thong sandals on Saturday and was cursing the damn straps yesterday when I wore them, but I figured that they'd be fine eventually. Thanks for the reassurance that I was right!

OP, I've also got the sneakers (which is what inspired me to go for the sandals), and I LOVE them. They are so comfortable (I walk approx 3 miles each way to work every day) and I honestly believe they've helped strengthen my core, which has in turn helped get rid of my back pain. The price tag put me off for a long time as well, but then I reasoned that I'd pay that much for good workout shoes, so why not for good walking ones?

I'm not sure if I broke them in or if the bottom got squished enough that my foot just doesn't run into the straps anymore. all I know is that breaking them in was *painful* for me. I was really surprised as I've been wearing thong sandals for years and this was the first time I've had any issues.

I love mine. I staff several conventions and I wore them at the last one and my feet have never felt better after 3- 20 hour days!
The support is great and my wide feet don't feel squished at all.
I do recommend buying them in a store and trying them on because 2 identical pairs fit me differently- one was too tight and one was perfect- so take your time when selecting.
The salesperson did say the mesh kind (as opposed to the all leather) run wider on the whole- if that's an issue for you.

I got a pair a few months ago, and absolutely LOVE them! I primarily wanted to try them for the posture bit (I have scoliosis and was always slouching), and to see if they could help my ankle/knee pain... They work wonders! For the past few years, I've loathed walking any great distance because of the pain in my joints, but these have greatly improved how I walk, even how I stand (there's the posture improvement!) I even did a little unexpected hiking in them this past weekend and came away with far less soreness than I would have expected. (They're definitely not meant for hiking in my opinion, at least not on rough, extremely uneven terrain. Others may disagree. Iono.) I've even started wearing them around the apartment, while washing dishes/cleaning/etc ( ... )

I was actually looking at the mary janes. They're just more my style of shoe :) I'll have to find somewhere around that sells more than just the white sneakers.

The shoe store I was in the other day when I was looking at them had their own brand as well. They were half the price, but they didn't have as much support in the insole, so even at half the price, I wouldn't bother. I don't remember the brand, but the store was Shoe Show.

Ooh, where did you get them in Toronto? I'd like to try them on in the store before I decide whether or not to buy them.
