"Bulging Brides"...WTF?!

Jun 21, 2009 17:52

I was spending the afternoon relaxing and watching Fine Living Network on tv after a very stressful work week, when I was accosted by a preview of this Canadian reality show, "Bulging Brides," in which a bride who can't fit into her wedding dress chooses to engage in a weight loss "boot camp" to help her fit into her dress, all caught on camera. I would never buy a dress that didn't fit me and try to lose weight just so i could wear it.

but, i think it's safe to say that most women tend to buy their dresses MONTHS in advance and because of the stress that comes with a wedding they might have lost or gained a few pounds. Now if you lost weight you would obviously get the dress taken in BUT if you gained weight what are you supposed to do? Buy a new dress? I doubt many women would run off and buy brand new wedding dress(unless you have the money to throw around) when all you need to do was run to the gym a couple of times a week and watch what you were eating. Don't get me wrong when they show you the walk of shame and show the "future" you and call you chubby it's a little ridiculous but someone telling you that a diet containing too many grains/fats/sugars is no good for you is really nothing horrible either because even though I'm happy with the size I am I certainly wouldn't want to gain anymore weight and that's why I exercise and don't eat fatty greasy stuff everyday.

I guess it's *technically* true... I mean, I don't want to be a *bulging* bride, because that would mean my dress was fitted incorrectly. But as far as what they actually mean... uh, no. Watch me not give a shit. Who am I inviting to my wedding anyway, the paparrazi? Shouldn't it be the people who love and support me and already know what I look like? Anyway if the other bride or groom likes it, who the hell else matters? And if they didn't, why did they pop the question in the first place?

This is not a reality show. A reality show about engaged couples is where you try for the seating chart to accommodate a thrice-divorced set of parents and wonder if it would be tacky to register for a down payment on a house.
