OOTD and lots of reviews: Target, belt from Etsy's Iamerica, eBay corset, Lolita-esque skirts...

So I’ve been doing a healthy amount of shopping lately (my justification: the economy needs my help). I went out for martinis last night and decided to play dress up and play around with some new stuff. Plus when I’m mulling an article of clothing I do like to see it on a non-model body, so maybe I can help some of you decide.

lots of photographic evidence of my recent shopping sprees; corset might be considered NSFW )

dresses, ootd, target, ebay, online shopping, reviews, successful shopping trips, raves

a) Thanks!
b) Heh, sorry. It took a while for me to break down and buy myself a new corset since I was so annoyed that my old one no longer fits. It's not like I have too many opportunities to wear one, but I was irritated that I no longer had the option, you know?

I was really pleasantly surprised at the quality and value of Alter Ego. I've seen many corsets that cost five times as much but aren't any nicer. And I love that she makes larger sizes.

Ooo, I'm very curious to see the Igigi wrap dress. I was thinking of ordering but the material looked a little heavy and stiff on the model. Looking forward to seeing it on you!

PS: You're lovely and that Alice in Wonderland skirt is to die for!

Thanks! According to UPS.com, I'll have to wait until Wednesday for the Igigi skirt. Meh. Their new $8 shipping takes forever, apparently. I've read such good reviews of their wrap dresses, so I have high hopes.

I too love that goofy Alice skirt. I actually forgot that my best friend is having a 4th of July party, so I think I'll trot it out then.

Ugh, the Igigi dress came today and was a huge letdown. The material was the opposite of heavy and stiff: light and waaay too clingy. I'm really disappointed!

omg, I know that I just posted, but I went to Etsy and contacted Iamerica about potentially making an obi for me. (I'm not sure if she makes 22W usually...)

But I'm curious- other than the black dress, what else goes with it? I'm only asking because I'm not fashion talented, but I need to branch out. ;) I'm not very daring! I'm a jeans and t-shirt kind of chica but I would love to change my ways.

Thanks! And yay to ordering your own belt! I think she'll make any size, really -- I just messaged her my waist measurement. And the belt is fully adjustable, so it's not like it needs to be exact anyway.

I think I want the "seafaring" one next:

I am trying to ween myself off of all-black-all-the-time, so I think that happy and colorful belts are good training wheels for that.

As for what else it goes with, maybe people more savvy than I can chime in. I feel like I'll wear it with dresses, mostly, but I imagine it would look nice even over a tee shirt and jeans -- I'll give it a try. I also threw it on when I was wearing the green dress but didn't take a picture.

I simply must go get that green dress. It's been forever since I saw anything I adored at Tar-zhay, but that is just yummy! Love the gothic ballerina look, and you know? I think the corset would look hot with the Wonderland skirt too. The colors on the LB dress are awesome, but yeah, there's some weird sizing in their sundresses this year. I was able to wear a size smaller than what I normally would, and there's still some extra fabric hanging around.

thank you so much for posting! toffeegyrl June 29 2008, 00:48:45 UTC
See, now you've got me wanting to post OOTDs. I was wondering about both of the target dress, and now it's definitely on the 'buy' list (what ban?!) for next week. And I've been wondering about that igigi dress too. Can't wait to see it on!
And obi belts, huh? I'm thick-waisted and have a fear of belts, but you're making me seriously reconsider. Thanks again for posting; it's so helpful to see clothes on a non-model body.
