Penguin!

Man, I need to catch up in natter at the b.org so I can post there, but the SO's penguin arrived! It is supercute, and much taller than I expected. It looks like a penguin, but all its penguin parts are also functional. You press the eyes to open it up and put the CO2 cartridge in. You rub its belly to make the horn pop up so you can put the ( Read more... )

It is! I think we may be inordinately happy about it, but it's really fun. I think we'll save money in the long run, because we really drink pop. But definitely we'll save ecologically, because that's a lot of cans or plastic bottles that won't need to be manufactured to begin with, let alone recycled.

I think Teppy also recommended the Soda Club thingy. I have been looking at it, too, since staying with a friend in Cleveland who had one.

We go through A LOT of soda--mostly diet and although we recycle our aluminum cans, I think this really might be a good economic alternative--especially as the kids get older and will eventually want to drink soda, too.

I'm very tempted with the penguin, but the glass bottles might not be the best choice for us with toddlers. It's very pretty, though.

Yeah, and as it turns out the actual cost per drink is lower with the cheaper unit too; all the supplies are slightly cheaper. I think it said we'd save money on gourmet sodas with the penguin, and on regular sodas with the regular unit.

But that said, we completely love it. It really does its job, and you can get all different kinds of soda mixes, and they all come in diet. The orange is really good. The cola (we've just tried the diet caffeine free so far) tastes like regular knockoff soda.

We went with the package that had extra carafes (they're really pretty!) and although they haven't shipped the extras yet, they'll be really nice. The soda stays fizzy in them with their special lid, so we could easily make several at a go, and then have the different flavors in the fridge available to grab as easily as having cans.

We love it. You should get one!

Oh, yay! I remember thinking it was really cute when someone (Jessica?) linked to it and I'm glad to hear that it's all functional - belly rubbing! I mean, that's just great.

And I'm doubly glad y'all are enjoying it and getting good use out of it.

It's totally awesome.

Although on reflection, it's not actually a belly rub. There's a sort of button thing on his back that you use to depressurize it, then there's a sort of latch and his back opens up. But still, cool! And I love pushing down his beak. Hee.
