I....cannot even begin to describe the last 72 hours down near the border of Khazikstan. Nor will I in full detail. All I can say for now is that if it wasn't for the training I recieved in the Army, I can guarentee you that I would not be alive right now. Nor would my photojurnalist companions. And as a matter of fact, Melinkov's fate was not ( Read more... )

...LUCKY if you get yourself EXPELLED from newly-fascist Russia. I strongly advise you to keep your mouth SHUT when you get back to Moscow and not to brag about your escepade even to Russians you believe are "sympathetic" to anti-Putin sentiments.

Bruce, what the fuck is there to brag about? I'm happy to have air in my lungs right now. And what kind of idiot do you take me for? And I don't think that any of what happened had to do with the government. These weren't soldiers or even police but private security contractors from the looks of their clothing and equipment. I never once saw any official russian personel or vehichles, but we were not able to get very far into the village. Don't you worry about me. I actually EXPERIENCE these situations and deal with them accordingly, but I know that simply because I'm an "Amerikan", you have this incredibly slanted conception that I'm most likely some uneducated, hill-billy with no sensitivity to the world around me or other cultures.

Its a fare assumption yes, because of my age. But you don't know a damn thing about me. And I can with the utmost certainty tell you know that if it wasn't for my "experience" and training in the Army, I would not be alive right now, and most likely neither would my companions. And yes yes yes, everyone and their mother knows how politically corrupt the Russian Federation and is due to the avalanche of privatization that you mentioned. And yes, I understand that these guys were most likely on the payroll of someone in the administration, thats pretty obvious. All I was saying was my observation that none of these guys had uniforms and their weapons and equipment was pretty mismatched. Don't tell me who was there or who wasn't, because you certainly were not. Uniform or no uniform, I can easily tell the difference between Russian trained troops in guise, and ( ... )
