for kirstie (lullabylucky) for supporting my femslash obsession and also for giving me pretty music :) this is a shipper's take on the "aslan dies" scene in lww. book!canon. go reread it. i dare you.

Huddled not an inch away from her body, Lucy's heat radiates through skin. Susan tosses and turns, somehow ending up closer to her sister than she was when she started.

If you hold her, it might help you sleep, she tries to tell herself, but really she knows it's only an excuse.

She wills the tension to flow out of her with a sigh. Her muscles refuse to unclench.

---

Sleep avoids them both, it seems, at the worst of times, leading to feet sneaking quietly through the densely-wooded darkness.

Silver flashes and she turns, hair spinning to settle around her pale face, barely visible in this light. Her senses are heightened in the dark; the rush of the chase still hasn't left her veins from their run away from the tall white queen.

Fingers cling to her younger sister's skin. Electricity zips halfway to her shoulder and Lucy glances up, but Susan pretends she doesn't notice, keeping her eyes on the horizon.

She's afraid her heartbeat might give her away.

---

Two meet one, and Aslan stares into Susan's eyes.

"Why have you come?" he asks her, but Lucy responds, with the standard We couldn't sleep. It sounds like a terrible lie.

He never looks away from Susan and she wonders if that's disapproval in his eyes. She glances down. Lucy is much better at interacting with mythical beasts than she is.

---

He stumbles, they bury their hands in his mane. It is purely by coincidence that the sisters' fingers end up linked.

(Lucy's hands are warmer than his fur. Susan won't ever forget that.)

---

Even as the lion leaves them and they cry bitter, salty tears, their hands refuse to pull apart.

Generally it's Lucy who takes comfort in Susan. Sometimes it's the older girl who needs to be reassured. But as a stone knife pierces through gold to strike a stone table, they're holding each other for the first time.

pairing: lucy/susan, fic type: drabbles, * narnia, pairing type: femslash, ? noncanon pairing, & fanfic ;
