"You know, whining doesn't help anything," she says instead, her voice merging from anger to sympathy. He snarls in that I-don't-need-your-pity way, and she glares at him.
"You think I don't know what you're going through?" Incredulous, amazed at his stupidity. At least, that's what he hears as his eyes widen, realizing she is probably the only one who really understands.
"Third wheel?" he asks.
"And when they're happy you want to laugh and puke at the same time."
He takes that as confirmation and for the first time in a long time, he feels like grinning.
She knows, and smiles for him.
