Nicholas Cage is one of our regular customers. Thus far, I've behaved like a normal person. I figure the famous should be allowed to shop quietly if they choose.
I bet to differ. Do I have to whip out the time I met....well, not exactly met---Mark Hamill? Or Luke Skywalker? Or the time I pissed off George Lucas' secretary?
My own John Brunner encounter is far more melancholy. We'd never met face to face, though we'd exchange letters and had phone calls relating to work he'd done for Science Fiction Age. The first night of the 1995 Glasgow WorldCon, I spotted him across the crowd in the SFWA suite. I was talking to a friend, and didn't want to come off as abandoning that friend for someone more famous. There are those who'll do that at a party, always be on the prowl for people of higher status than those they're with, and will leap the first chance they get. I don't like making people feel "less than," so I continued my enjoyable conversation, thinking that I'd catch up with John and introduce myself the next day

Crazy Bee Girl is here on LJ, on my flist. I remember this incident fondly.
But I like your story too. :D
I fluttered like a fanboi when I encountered Larry Niven at OryCon a few years ago. Fortunately the next year when I met Jerry Pournelle I held it together better. (Jerry's a really nice guy.)
Well, thanks. But my story is really a non-story. I only told it because someone was going to ask, so I got it out of the way. Crazy Bee Girl is most definitely WIN. Not just for bees but for OMGPonies!!! I'd friend her if I knew who she was (hint, hint).
Oh, and I do know Jerry Pournelle is a really nice guy.:)
I gushed when I met Larry Niven at Yokohama. Partly it's down to never having recovered from being a fluttering Niven fanboi in my teens and tweens, and partly because I hadn't expected to see him there. He looked a bit discomfitted by my gushing, but he said hello to me at the dead dog party, so I guess he forgave me.
