Discussion Question: Eating and Reading

Do you eat while reading?

I do. All the time.  In fact, my habit of noshing while turning pages could easily explain how I gained all that extra weight in the past year.
It's food that does me in.  Descriptions of food.  If the author describes how her character ate a rich chocolate cake with strawberries on top, I have to go find some M&Ms or some ( Read more... )

I love to read while eating, and yes, it does lead to the disastrous other activity of eating while reading. Í don't know why I do it. I suspect that sometime long ago I decided that mealtimes were perfectly good reading times going to waste. I don't do it while in company, of course.

Mmmmm, cake.

Of course! In fact, I will often have a reading "set up". Pillows just so, fan on, drink at my hand and a piece of fruit or toast or what have you. All possible needs and comforts accounted for!

I'm glad I'm not the only one. My vice is popcorn. Or if I'm feeling like something spicy.. nachos (and I can't tell you WHAT that does to the waistline) also Trader Joes has these Jalapeno cheese twists (think spicy cheetos) and I'm certain they are addictive. I try not to eat when I read, just a drink nearby (usually tea) but every now and then..

oh sushi. I'll eat sushi while reading.

now I'm hungry. *goes to find sushi*

OM NOM NOM
I love Trader Joe's. I haven't had the jalepeno cheese sticks, but I think I've had the parmesean ones? YUMMY.
I am also rather addicted to their tubs of crunchy chocolate chip cookies.

Oh I forgot about the raspberry sticks. They were my favorite candy growing up! My dad would carry them on hiking trips to motivate my brother and I!

I totally do. I read during my breaks at work, including lunch, so there's that, and I tend to snack while I read despite knowing that, like tv snacking, its a sort of mindless eating that leads to extra pounds...plus I have foods associated with certain books. If I'm re-reading A Wind in the Door, for example, I will have oatmeal at some point during the book (because they eat it for breakfast and I always think that it sounds good) or pizza (because the first time I read it, I ate pizza and got grease on some pages, and now the book sort of smells like a used pizza box-not strongly, and possibly only in my brain, but its that book smell plus a slight pizza smell)

Not exactly, although I read when I'm eating, Not necessarily vice versa.
