Last weekend my parents went to a garage sale and bought me four square canvases for a dollar.  (Aren't they sweet.)   Since they're all the same size and shape I wanted to do a series of four and figured something using face-cards and Ace would be cool.  I'm still gesso-ing the canvases and making sketches but figured I'd do a little research on

Also, modern playing cards are just a simplified variation of the tarot deck (which I unsuccessfully tried to explain to the roommates who were scandalized to find that I owned a tarot deck and convinced that I was inviting great evil into our apartment. ...I have four tarot decks now, I think. Maybe five).

I'm completely fascinated now. I've never really played cards much (not good at working with things I can't see, so I never really thought about the origins or symbolism. I'll have to look into tarot history.
