Oscars Red Carpet

Okay, look, rat's nest hair seemed to be the trend last night, so rather than continually calling it out, I'm just going to level the paying field as far as that goes, and maybe call out the nice hair. I don't know what the deal is, but clearly a bunch of stylists had these women drinking the Kool Aid on this one ( Read more... )

entertainment, red carpet

Wow--I feel like it's been a long time since I've been so appalled by some of the dresses. ACK, Charlize! Ack, Zoe and Sarah Jessica Parker! J-Lo--why??

And I totally agree that there were no real stunners.

I do like Amanda Siefried's dress better than a 6, but maybe I need to see it from the front...

The Seyfriend dress is very pretty but does overwhelm her just a tad from the front. I was being more critical because last time you told me I went too easy!!!

Though it wasn't hard to critique this time around. Many cases of the dress wearing the women.

I'm totally out of my depth as far as the dresses go, but I'd just like to add that Kathryn Bigelow looks pretty amazing at 58 years old.

Re the guys: most were too cookie-cutter, so I'm with you on the RDJ sneakers. Clooney looked uncharacteristically meh. Something was up with his hair; from the side, he looked like he was dyeing it or something, and from the front, he looked too much like his dad. Also, is it just me, or did he look behind his always thousand-watt smile like he wanted to kill Jeff Bridges?

I was about to add that comment when I came here and saw your comment--I can't believe she's 58.

Clooney was rocking his flask, but he looked disgruntled in general.

I actually thought in a couple of audience shots -- we only saw a little of the show -- that she was Liz Hurley. Impressive. I like her work on Strange Days and K-19, too, though I haven't seen The Hurt Locker yet.

I should add, I mean meh by Clooney standards; he'd look great if he were anyone else.

Wow... could you please write for some magazine because that was the best Oscar wear run-down I have ever read. Awesome in its accuracy as well as in its humor.

Aww, thanks! Oh man, if I could get that job I'd ditch academia in a heartbeat :P Maybe Joan River will hire me for the Fashion Police? I have to be wittier than Khloe Kardashian, right?

I know it's weird, but Georgina Chapman's dress appeals to me.

I don't mind a busy dress per se, but it has the same aimlessly busy vibe that Diane Kruger's dress gave me.
