The Beetles is an episode that Jensen and Jared really dislike. They said many times that it was this episode that they would re-shoot and how they were bitten by bees. And now they say at conventions that you shouldn't have used real bees. But in this episode, they apparently decided to use real insects to make it more reliable and scary. And they did it))
In the first season, we are shown Sam, who was ripped off from the University, who still dreams of a normal life, how other people live, so the thought is often repeated that the way they live is wrong, they earn money is not fair and it would be possible to live and work like others. Then this topic gradually disappears and Sam himself is good at counterfeiting credit cards so that they have money.
I look forward to continuing

Yes, I've heard Jensen's bee story a few times. It gets more elaborate with every re-telling. It's an entertaining tale :)

The change in Sam's moral stance over time is very telling. Even by the end of this episode you can see his attitudes are already changing.

I'm glad you're enjoying the review so far. I'm planning to post the rest of it at the weekend. Thanks so much for reading and commenting. :)

You're right, there are good parts in this ep, especially when it's about the brother's relationship.

Oh, that's an interesting point, that this is when things shift and we see Sam doing the research.

I've always thought that when Dean rejects the idea of a normal life here, that it's meant to be a contrast to how Sam feels. Earlier in the ep, Sam says "How we were raised was jacked" and Dean replies "Says you." I do think that deep down inside, Dean wishes he could have something normal, but he also very much wants his family (Sam and dad) to go back to how they were (like what he tells Sam later on in Shadow).

I love the "Okay, honey" moment, lol. Dean loves to tease Sam, and he likes being the dominant brother, the one in charge, so it extends to how he behaves when they're mistaken for, or pretending to be, a gay couple.

And, now to part 2! :)

I know what you mean about Bugs - it's a fun episode, but there's a lot for me that didn't work. The timing of that last scene in the loft when they're all trapped with the thousands of CG bees is just completely off for me. They're supposed to be there all night, but it's only about a couple of minutes, and there's no suspense, no feeling of peril or growing panic just suddenly BOOM, and there's the sunrise ( ... )

I hadn't twigged on to the fact that it was the only time the brothers used umbrellas, but it certainly does look weird. I didn't know about Kripke throwing a fit, but I can certainly understand why. I'm glad he put his foot down about it.

Technically, yes it is the first full on appearance of the gay couple gag, unless you count the facepalm look Sam gives Dean in Bloody Mary when Dean says "we had to go to the bathroom". "The things he can do with a brush" comment in Hookman is also susceptible of entendre. Barely an episode goes by without some kind of homo-erotic innuendo in the dialogue.

> If that was me, and a spider that big ran on my face, my freakout would be visible from outer space and would probably culminate in me burning the house down!

Reaction noted and deemed reasonable. That's what really happened in Hell House, you know. :P
