here They buried him on a rainy day. Everyone who could attend the funeral found it fitting that on such a sad occasion the skies had opened up and decided to downpour. The words were kept brief but were touching nonetheless. They were risking a lot being out here, but this was important. Hermione was the last one to leave and people gave her space to grieve but didn’t leave her alone due to the danger they were all in on a daily basis. The earth was drenched and caused the mud to reach high on her shoes as she walked away from his plot.
A few months after Ronald Weasley’s passing, Hermione was still mourning. She had her nose deep in books as usual and while her friends understood that everyone mourns in their own way, they also knew that she needed to go out more. Unfortunately they didn’t know how to tell her this without Hermione getting defensive then shutting down.
“Can I try?” Draco asked Harry after overhearing him speak to Ginny about Hermione. Both of them crossed their arms the minute they realized Draco had been listening. From the stance they both took it was obvious they weren’t pleased with his eavesdropping. Their shoulders were rigid and their legs tense.
“She hates you. You’re not going to be able to convince her to go outside. Why do you even want to try?” Harry asked.
“I think I can convince her by giving her an incentive neither of you can.”
“What incentive is that?” Harry asked his curiosity piqued.
Draco smiled. He took that question as his cue that it was okay to approach Hermione with his proposition. Ginny and Harry watched from afar because they wanted to see if it would work. They pretended they were still talking so it wouldn’t appear they were eavesdropping.
“It’s time you headed outside for some fresh air,” Draco told her nonchalantly.
“Says who?”
“I do. Now let’s go.”
“I’m not going anywhere with you. Now if you’ll excuse me I have some reading to do,” Hermione snapped then lifted her book - partly to keep reading, but mostly to help her ignore Draco. She wasn’t in the mood for his antics.
Draco approached Hermione and whispered something in her ear. Hermione smiled, put her book down and said, “Let’s go.” She led the way outside. Harry and Ginny stared at them, dumbfounded at what they just witnessed and unsure what to make of it.
