The Games He Plays Years had passed since Lavender saw Blaise. She still harbored some resentment towards him, but it didn’t stop her from pursuing love as bravely as possible. She wasn’t the type of girl who took a broken heart and hurt feelings lightly. She had forgiven Ginny for the role Lavender perceived her to have in the entire ordeal, but that didn’t mean she was ready to be friends with the redhead nor was she ready to be on speaking terms with Blaise. Unfortunately this would need to change when Lavender received unexpected news.
“We have a new assignment for you, Brown,” said Barnabas Cuffe as he handed Lavender a piece of paper. Lavender smiled and took the paper from him, but once she saw what he had assigned her smile faltered.
“I don’t think I can cover this story.”
“You have to. We don’t have anyone else available. Besides the grand reopening is just a few days away and we really need the article before then so it’ll be in that day’s edition. You know how important rebuilding Diagon Alley has been to our community after the Second Wizard War and we must stay on top of all the repairs and improvements.”
Lavender tried to argue, but ultimately caved. She didn’t want to disappoint her boss and she really enjoyed her job, so she decided to do it. As she made her way to Diagon Alley Lavender reminded herself she was a professional the entire time. She arrived at shop and knocked on the door. She hoped this would be quick and painless.
“What are you doing here Lavender?” Blaise asked.
“I’ve been sent by the Daily Prophet to write an article about the apothecary you have renovated and are reopening this weekend.”
“Come in,” he said as he opened the door a little wider to let her inside.
Lavender looked around as she stepped inside and was impressed by how much bigger the store was. She checked the nearby shelves and saw the beautiful bottles and how neat and polished everything was. She couldn’t keep the awe hidden from her expression. Thirty minutes later Lavender asked all the important questions and got some good quotes from Blaise. She was pleased this experience had turned out better than anticipated and she appreciated Blaise’s cooperation throughout the interview.
“Thank you for the information. I’ll be on my way now,” she said then headed for the door.
Blaise grabbed her by the wrist and stopped her. “Just one more thing before you leave.”
“Yes?”
Blaise stole a kiss from Lavender. She froze. When their lips parted Lavender asked, “What did you do that for?”
“I wanted to know whether or not I made a mistake all those years ago and I think I have.”
“It’s too late now. You were busy lusting after Ginny and broke my heart in the process. We’re not happening again,” she snapped then left.
