Author's Notes: This fic contains possibly triggering content, including cutting, attempted suicide, and a very vague, unnamed character's death. Please read with discretion. This was based on the song "Ashita Moshi Kimi ga Kowaretemo," which was the ending theme to Toei Animation's original Yu-Gi-Oh anime (the one that was never aired in America.) The song is a good song, if not a bit depressing, depending on how you interpret it. The title translates to "Even if Tomorrow Shatters," which is where I got the title from.

"Where did you go?" Renji asked quietly as Yukimura Seiichi sat down next to him on the seaside cliff.
"It's not important." Yukimura said, as they stared out to the sea.
Renji nodded. It had been a long time since they had done this. Yukimura leaned against Renji, who wasn't quite sure what to make of it. "Seiichi?"
"What is it?" Yukimura asked, wondering at the tone in Renji's voice.
"Is this right?" Renji asked, his hand searching for Yukimura's. Their hands met and Yukimura's squeezed Renji's in reassurance.
"It is if we say it is." He said softly, looking up at the sky as the sun faded into night. "Renji? Do you remember when we first met?"
Renji nodded, though he didn't want to remember. His heart had been broken. Somehow, Yukimura had managed to help him pick up the pieces of it. He held on to Yukimura's hand for fear he was going to do like always and run away from the pain. Renji's voice was nothing more than a whisper that would have been carried away on the waves. "How can I forget?"
Yukimura squeezed his hand again. "I'm sorry." He said quietly. This was the place where Yukimura had found Renji after the incident. Renji turned around to look at him in the moonlight. The moonlight make Yukimura look paler than normal.
Renji smiled. "Seiichi, did I ever thank you?" He asked.
Yukimura smiled. "Many times, Renji."
"Why did you do it?" Renji asked, curious as to why Yukimura would never answer him.
Yukimura looked away. It had been five years, and the pain and the scars and the fact that he almost lost a best friend still stabbed at his heart as if it was yesterday. Yukimura's soft voice was lost on the wind. "Because I love you." No one would have filled the hole in his heart he would have had if he had lost Renji. He fought down his anger he felt towards him. It was completely irrational, except for the fact that it had almost cost Renji his life.
Renji knew what the answer was. He always had. This was their ritual. They didn't need the words anymore. They were just a formality.
They both remember that day clearly. Renji had seemed distant, but that wasn't unusual. Yukimura just had a bad feeling that day, and even though Renji seemed normal, there was just a bad feeling coming from the pit of Yukimura's stomach. Yukimura had followed Renji to this same cliff where he had pulled a sharp knife out of Renji's hands. Thankfully, he hadn't done much more than a few minor cuts. Yukimura had flung the knife into the sea, pulling Renji into his arms and asking why. Renji had broke down and told him story and how he blamed himself for everything, including the death of his boyfriend. He couldn't bring himself to actually do more than that.
Yukimura was glad Renji was still here. Yukimura had always had the fear that he would be the first to go due to the health problems he'd had in the past. That day had brought a real fear that any of them could go - even by their own hands. The fear of losing any one made him hurt so much. And Renji had come to mean so much more than a friend to him.
Yukimura turned to face Renji. "Do you forgive me?" He asked at the exact same time Renji did. They laughed together. They knew the answer. If neither of them hadn't, they both wouldn't be sitting here today.
Yukimura pulled Renji into a hug, holding him. "I'm never going to lose you." He whispered. They sat there all night like that, watching the churning sea.
The sun had begun to rise, the dark blue of night turning into violet, then red then orange and finally into the brilliant blue of day. Renji stood up, and pulled Yukimura up with him. "I'm here another day." He said, smiling.
Yukimura smiled as well and kissed him. "I'm glad you are." He said, leading them back to the city. Before they had actually made it off the cliff, Renji looked back at the cliff, thinking he saw something. He mouthed something back that way, but his throat would not provide a voice for them.
