It was in the center of the local convenience store that Renji ran into Yukimura. Renji was picking up things for the date he had planned for that evening.

"I didn't expect to run into you." Yukimura said, smiling a little. "You didn't have any plans with your wife?" He teased.

Renji wasn't exactly paying attention to what his friend was saying, and started to answer before what he said sunk in. "Seiichi!"

Yukimura was still laughing a little. "Renji, you two are almost as good as married. I'm just waiting for the engraved invitation."

"You'll get it when we're old men." Renji said. "Seriously, are we that bad?"

"It's sweet. I just didn't realize exactly how bad you two had it for each other."

Renji shook his head and continued on, staring at the variety of potato chips that were available, picking up plain ones.

"So how far have you gotten with her?" Renji stopped dead in his tracks and turned to glare at his friend.

"That's really none of your business, you realize."

"So you're not getting any." Yukimura translated, smiling a little. "It happens."

Renji looked around, then practically cornered Yukimura against a cooler door. "What Mizu and I do together really isn't any of your concern. I would appreciate it if you didn't bring this up again."

Yukimura just stared Renji in the eye. He was still shorter than Renji, but he had grown a little since junior high and they were almost eye level. "You really need to get laid." He smiled. "If Mizu-chan isn't willing, there are others that wouldn't mind."

Renji looked rather shocked. "Seiichi, I know about them. However, I must say I am over 100% certain that I don't want another guy any where near there." He shook his head and backed off, heading for another area of the coolers. He paused for a moment. "You haven't...?" He asked, knowing Yukimura was right behind him.

"No, but you know how rumors get around. Unfortunately, I learned those were true. Straight from the horse's mouth, so to speak." He said, picking up a box of banana Pocky. "I believe her favorite flavor is coconut milk."

"Why do you know more about my girlfriend than I do?" Renji asked, picking up two boxes of the said flavor.

"Because I'm her favorite sempai, why else?" Yukimura grinned. "I'm just looking out for her best interests." He said.

"Or you're stalking her." Renji said, glowering a little. He headed for the cashier while Yukimura just stayed where he was, contemplating other flavors of Pocky.

Yukimura finally came up to the front as well, paid for all the Pocky he had picked up, and joined Renji outside the door.

"What are you going to do with all that Pocky?" Renji finally asked.

"A project my sister is working on." Yukimura answered. "And one box is for me to eat."

"I don't want to know what kind of project involves Pocky." Renji said, waiting for the bus.

"I didn't either, really." Yukimura said as the bus pulled up to the stop. "I'll see you around." He waved as Renji stepped on the bus. "I'm walking."

Renji just shook his head and took a seat, wondering what had gotten into his friend's head. Yes, he and Mizu had been slightly...tense around each other lately. Renji had a look of confusion on his face. Was that why Mizu had cooked so much? He sighed quietly. He hated to admit it, but perhaps Seiichi had a point.

Renji was packing up his backpack with the food he'd purchased earlier, barely paying attention as he transferred things from the plastic sacks.

"And what is the baby of the family up to?" Kana asked as she passed this spectacle in the kitchen.

"Thought I'd take Mizu down to the beach for a picnic." Renji said. Kana glanced at the bag Renji hadn't gotten to yet, and grabbed it, raising an eyebrow and pulling out a box that did not contain a food item.

"And just what are you planning that involves these?" She asked, waving a box of condoms in front of his face. Renji paled.

"I...uh..." He was totally speechless as he had not put those in his shopping basket that he could recall.

"At least you're trying to be careful. You realize that if you hurt her in any way Mom and I will kill you. She's been through enough, and that's a huge step on both an emotional and physical level." Kana said.

Other than wanting to die again, Renji nodded. "I know that. I actually didn't mean to..."

Kana laughed. "Someone's looking out for you then." She tossed the box into his backpack. "If you have to, well..." She shrugged.

Renji shook his head. He had a pretty good idea who that someone was and the next time he saw them he was going to be wringing that someone's neck. "Nee-san? Have you...no, I shouldn't pry."

"Yes. Kind of wish I hadn't, but..." Kana answered the unasked question, smiling sadly. "And he was such a jerk after that, demanding things of me that I didn't want to do. I kind of got rid of him quickly after that." She smiled a little. "Oddly enough, it was Sadaharu-kun who chased him off one night."

"You need to find better boyfriends, it sounds like." Renji said, zipping up his backpack.

"My current one is rather sweet and isn't as grabby." She said, smiling. "It's nice change."

"I'm glad to hear that. Because if you were still with the other guy, I think I would have to kill him." Renji said, sitting down. Kana laughed.

"You realize you're my baby brother, not the elder, right?" She teased. "I appreciate the thought though." She said, hugging him from behind. "You're a good brother, no matter how old you are."

Renji blushed a little, but smiled. "I couldn't ask for a better sister."
