Luke's, Sunday

Apr 02, 2017 12:34

Kanan had put some serious consideration into just not coming in to work today. The fact that he was clearly not the only person on the island who had been afflicted with a serious case of body dysphoria this weekend was basically the only reason he was sucking it up and heading in for his shift at Luke's ( Read more... )

Steve came in and then paused, confused. "I thought this was Kanan's shift."

"Every Sunday," Kanan agreed, sounding minorly disgruntled. "And he very nearly didn't bother coming in today, either."

Very nearly. But here he was. With some kind of strawberry and cream concoction in front of himself that, let's be real, he'd be eating today even if he wasn't currently in a weirdly feminine body.

It took Steve a second, then he grinned. "You're Kanan today. I like your hair."

"I'm Kanan every day," Kanan pointed out. "I'm just less Kanan-shaped than usual."

He paused, and then added, "But thanks. The hair's not so bad."

There was actually a bit more of it than even he was used to. That was kind of impressive. And now he was squinting a little.

"... Steve?"

He only knew so many blondes, weirdly enough.

You know what was a good way to deal with temporary-but-severe body dysphoria? (Other than how he'd spent all day yesterday dealing with it, that was.) Going out and enjoying how much better you were dealing with it than other people.

Sorry, Kanan. That meant you got a very smug (and very butch) Eliot in the diner today.

"Hey darlin'," he greeted, grabbing a seat at the counter and folding his arms over his (very firmly bound in sports bras, ugh) chest. "Thought this place usually served pancakes on Sundays."

"Ugh," Kanan muttered. "No. I threatened to mutiny."

Or bury somebody alive under them. Which was practically the same thing.

"This weekend is a dessert weekend. I've decided." He paused and added, "and so help me, it isn't darlin'."

He almost actually preferred 'kid.'

Eliot tipped his head in a small nod. "Habit," he said. "I call most everyone presentin' as female 'darlin'' at some point or other." He raised an eyebrow. "You dealin' okay?"

Kanan took a moment to look down at his third helping of strawberry shortcake. And then he kind of wrinkled his nose and shrugged, making a so-so gesture with one hand.

"On a scale from 'inexplicable bead rain' to 'being turned into a tooka,' this is way farther down the tooka end than it has any right to be," he sighed. "And I think I'll still take this over being turned into a kid again. That doesn't mean I'm enjoying it at all."

Parker, of course, had to stop in and check out what Kanan looked like. "Short and pretty," she decided. "It's weird that you're all shorter than me now."

[very late, but I couldn't resist.]

"Trust me, I'm finding being this short pretty weird, too," Kanan offered. "It's been a few years since I was only this tall."

Puberty had been kind to him, in regards to height. Even when Master Billaba had taken him in as her Padawan, he'd been a shorty. And then he'd grown. Plenty.

"You being...?"

He'd been pretty good at guessing so far today, but he was slightly at a loss with this one, so far. And he wasn't about to go poking around with the Force just to see if she (she?) rang a bell that way instead.

[RIGHT ON TIME.]

"Parker," she said, climbing up on top of one of the booths, balancing a little uncertainly. "Hardison and Eliot's partner. I think you're Kanan, right? I've see you around, but I don't think we've ever talked."

"Yeah, it's Kanan," he confirmed, watching her mostly out of curiosity than concern for the state of well being of the booths. He'd wipe it down later, it'd be fine. Anyway, he'd worked cantinas with far less concern for hygiene anyway. "And I'm pretty sure you're right, we haven't talked yet. So."

He fired off a little salute, not about to climb up there just to be on handshake level.

"Good to meet you, Parker."
