The Band

Are very festive. Wearing an assortment of bunny ears, green top hats, and deely-bobbies with little hearts on them.

So Kenzi broke out the seasonal headwear, sue her.

Later in the evening, Spike headed for the stage with his borrowed bass.

"Everyone, sing along in honor of the birthday dude! ...Feliz cumpleaños a ti, feliz cumpleaños a ti...."

Riley didn't know Spanish well enough to sing along -- she was better at Northern European languages, fluent in Dutch and German and getting close with Swedish -- but she joined in with Eliot's guitar, anyway, and hummed along.

"Toooooo youuuu!" Spike finished up in English with a flourish, and grinned, applauding for Eliot. He turned to Riley. "I have the bass! You pick the next song, you're carrying the melody."

Where Kenzi was willing to make milkshakes for short kids, mock big kids who thought they needed I.D., and booze for anyone missing their kid after they dropped them off in the park.

Dagny had been waiting for an age for Tamsin to finally take her to see Kenzi. Since that wasn't happening, she'd taken matters into her own hands and... taken off.

(A grumpy Tamsin wasn't far behind.)

It took some phone-based research, but she burst into the bar halfway into the afternoon. "Kenzi?"

"Who's asking?" Kenzi said on reflex, turning around with hands full of blood oranges. She blinked at Tamsin and her-- well, not quite mini-me, but definitely some kinda offspring. "Hey?"

Tamsin was lagging way behind now, though, hanging out by the doors, rolling her eyes. She needed booze; that was the only upside of this arrangement.

Dagny slid into a seat at the bar without another word, then hunkered forward. "Dagny," she said. "I've been looking for you all over, but my stupid bio-mom wouldn't let me."

(She didn't actually think Tamsin was stupid. She was insanely eager to meet her. But Tamsin, as it turned out, was grumpy.)

Eliot grabbed himself a beer and sttled into the lounge area. Riley got a beer of her own -- eying him to see if he'd object -- and came over to join him.

"I found out it eas your birthday like tenminutes ago," she said. "So I'm not giving you a present."

"Darlin', you bein' here is present enough."

"Ew," said Riley.

Spike settled in with a beer too, looking pleased with himself, and said, "Am I a present too?" He grinned. "I could sing Happy Birthday in Spanish to make it more of a present, if you want."

"Definitely ain't gonna complain if you want to sing it," Eliot said. Having them as teenagers was fun, but he did kind of miss the younger versions from last year. "But if you wanna just relax and enjoy yourself, that's fine, too."
