3 MINUTE DATESPromptly at 8:00, the zombie band started playing music and the bassist lurched forward to do an interpretive dance explaining the rules of the dates. It wasn't long before Tino was pushing Johnny on stage while holding cue cards

"Oh, hey," Amy said, slipping onto the bar stool. "I didn't think I'd get matched with someone I already knew." She was going to take it as a good thing, though. "How's it going?"

Yeah, so far, Kira's decision to be brave and do this again was turning out well. "I'm doing okay. Glad to be back in the present, sad to be back in the cold," she said. "How are you? Did you have fun on the trip?"

"Yeah, it was fun," Amy said, smiling. "I learned how to play shuffleboard and do macrame, and I definitely learned some great recipes for if I ever need to be passive-aggressive to a new neighbor. How about you?"

"I went to see a couple of the things off of the ship, which was pretty cool. And I didn't miss the internet as much as I thought I would," she said quietly, like that was a secret. "Don't tell anyone else that though."

Drink still in hand, Travis took a seat and waited for his first date.

Anna hadn't found her way to the bar yet. Which was probably for the best, since she was a considerable lightweight.

She did, however, find her way to Travis.

"Oh! Hi!" she said, waving excitedly. "I remember you! From the party! The, um, the one where we had the --"

She was going to gesture in a flustered manner, in lieu of actually saying the words 'kissing,' 'spin' or 'bottle.'

"The one where we were doing a lot of strange things," he filled in for her. "Hello, good to see you again. Looks like I'm your first date for the night."

"Apparently everybody was ... not quite themselves," Anna said, diplomatically. She was trying her hardest not to say 'crazy,' and she didn't have a polite euphemism for 'horny.' "And you are! I've never been on a date before. Are they usually this short?"

"Not typically," he replied. "I mean, they can be but a lot of times that's not on purpose. Here, it's actually on purpose. Wham, bam, thank you ma'am kinda deal."

It was helpful that Anna didn't actually know that reference, or she might have turned even more pink.

"How can you know if you want to date someone in just three minutes?" she mused aloud. "I guess sometimes you can tell whether there's a spark or not."

Like, say, getting engaged to a guy at the end of a musical montage. That kind of thing.

"I think, and I could be wrong, that these are more about testing the waters," he explained. "If you get along with someone during these, you maybe ask each other out for a longer date. I think that's the point."

"I wonder if that ever works," Anna mused. "If there are people who met during a three-minute date and are now happily married with five kids. It could happen, right?"

That would make such a funny story for the grandchildren.

"Wouldn't be the strangest thing that led to a relationship, I'm sure," Travis agreed. "I don't know if it's happened here but I wouldn't doubt that it's happened somewhere."
