Natalie's plans with her parents visiting Brazil had gotten delayed, so last night she'd taken advantage of a portal deal back to fandom, in the hopes of meeting some friends and maybe flagging Jim down for a visit too ( Read more... )

Sam's trip to the island had been one of pleasure. He'd taught there a semester ago and had realized what he'd loved about being there so he was trying to visit more.

Of course, waking up this morning, he had no memory of that. In fact, he had no memory of anything. All he knew was that he was seeing a lot of different colors when he happened across people.

Pushing into the Perk was no different. The girl in there was comprised of nice, soothing warm tones so he felt comfortable, at least. Still didn't feel great but he wasn't scared.

He was also maybe staring a bit.

"I...guess not," Sam said slowly, "but I didn't see any scars or anything that would indicate something nasty happened to me."

The tattoos were a little weird to discover but not indicative of a car accident.

"Wouldn't someone else know me and be looking out for me if I was in an accident?"

"Maybe you don't have any friends."

Maybe that was a little mean. But it was also a possibility! Seriously, they were two amnesiacs and that was distressing.

"Seriously?" He frowned at her for that one. "I'm sure I have friends. Maybe you're not one of them, though."

Natalie shrugged her shoulders with a dry look.

"It's not like we can know that, either way."

"Still kind of a crappy assumption to make, isn't it?" Sam told her witheringly. "Way to try and ease my mind."

Natalie rolled her eyes.

"Did you forget I'm in the exact same situation?"

So maybe she didn't have any friends either.

"And I didn't automatically jump to you not having friends, did I?" Sam pointed out, rubbing his eyes. "Maybe they're just at work or something. See, much explanation."

"Whatever," Natalie said, and looked down at the assorted contents of her wallet she'd dumped on the table next to her coffee cup.

Sorry if there was anxiety wafting off of her. It was kind of hard to contain.

Yeah, he could feel that and it made him twitch since he hadn't expected to feel it.

"Don't be so anxious," he said, shaking his head. "There's an explanation. There always is."

Right?

Annnd now he was getting her frowning up at him again.

She thought she'd been pretty good about hiding her anxiety! But she'd only taken eyes into account. And not anyone reading her feelings.

"What?" Sam asked, frowning right back at her. "You're anxious, aren't you?"

"... Yes." Well, she was, and seeing as it was one of the few things she actually knew about herself right now, she was even inclined to admit it. "But how do you know that?"

"I can feel it." Couldn't everyone? "It's coming off you like perfume."

"You can feel it?"

Maybe that answered the question of whether everyone could.

"You can feel what I'm feeling?"

"I...guess," he said, suddenly feeling uncomfortable with it since he was getting the idea that she could not feel what he was feeling. "You can't feel what I'm feeling?"
