The Park, All Day Saturday

Aug 09, 2014 01:40

On Saturday morning, the smell of cotton candy permeated the island once again as the booths at Cooger & Dark's Pandemonium Shadow Show began to turn on and light up. There were more attractions to see today than there had been yesterday, and wasn't that just wonderful ( Read more... )

Fortune Teller fh_thumbprick August 9 2014, 05:44:47 UTC
Hidden in a tent of her own, the fortune teller awaits. She may look like any charlatan you meet on the street, but nothing is less true. What she sees in her crystal ball may well come true...

[[ the fortune teller actually sees the future - but the futures she sees will inevitably be negative alternatives. if you want to see something specific, please designate this in the npc post or mail us. ]]

A fortune teller. Probably a traveler faking an Eastern European accent who would tell her about a mysterious handsome stranger and how she was about to come into some money.

"All right," she said, smiling at the woman. "I'd like my fortune, please."

She held her hand out for the woman to examine.

The fortune teller smiled softly as she took Eleanor's hand in her own, running her fingertips over Eleanor's palm. "Ah, another young woman far from home, finding her own place in the world. You seem to be in good company in this town, my good lady."

And Celia had turned out to be a delight, so who knew what this girl could end up doing?

"Very clever," Eleanor said. She knew that psychologists and con artists had their tricks, but she hadn't imagined herself to be such an open book. "I suppose it's a good guess in this town, but you're right. I'm rather far from home. What else do you see?"

Ferris Wheel fh_thumbprick August 9 2014, 05:45:10 UTC
This ferris wheel is somewhat old-fashioned, and not nearly as grand as the likes of it built today. But it reaches high in the sky, and it keeps rolling, rolling, waiting for more to enter and get a good view of the island and its surroundings.

[[ the ferris wheel will come loose or spin out of control periodically, killing or hurting those inside. ]]

Knife Thrower fh_thumbprick August 9 2014, 05:45:31 UTC
A man stands in one corner of the carnival, flipping knives. Ahead sits a wooden target, at which he sometimes throws his knives. Just a harmless attraction - unless you'd like to join it.

[[ the knife-thrower can and will throw knives at you, whether you decide to stand in front of the target or not. ]]

Is it just you, or did something change during the night...? More booths appear as the day goes on, containing familiar faces...

The haunted house-that was what it was being advertised as-didn't have creaky wooden floors, or doors that swung on only one hinge, or ghosts that peered from mirrors at unexpected moments.

Rather, the house, and it was a good-sized house, was made of ice. The walls were thick, too thick to see through, and there were no doors. Pillars flanked the house, covered with roses, also made of ice, inviting the unwary to make their way up several slippery stairs into the house proper.

Once inside, there was a maze of rooms. In some rooms the ice shone, bright and crackling, almost like a million mirrors, while in others, the ice was dull and opaque. Some rooms had spikes made of ice that fell when they sensed someone under them, while in others, the floors bucked and shifted abruptly. Other floors had patches of ice so thin that anyone that stepped on them would fall into an ice-spike lined pit, or walls that crashed together.

The sound of high heels going clack, clack, clack echoed sharply through the entire house, and every now and ( ... )

Kathy hadn't come in to explore--she'd staggered in, trying to get away from the teddy bear that had turned evil and violent in her arms. She wasn't sure what else had happened, but there'd been a bite of pain on her shoulder and now everything was wobbly and woozy.

The ice was so cold it burned her hands as she lurched inside and then fell to her knees. But she was inside and hidden for now, so it should be fine...right?

There's nothing terrible about these (for the most part, sorry Jessica) - it's just a place to sit.
