Who was Luke? Luke was a smoky bar on a rainy summer evening filled with the wail of a lonely sax. Luke was a classy dame with a box of matches and a story to tell. Luke was money to burn and living with regret in the light of a sun that never, ever rose ( Read more... )

Enjoy some bluesy sax and sparkling grape juice.

Well aged sparkling grape juice.

Ricki wrapped her mink around herself and beamed at the waiter. Ginger ale? Fine. She was just making appearances here in the lounge, anyway. She needed to get to the back room.

During a slow spell in the coat check -- and to be honest, there weren't that many coats to check in July, so it had been a slow night to start with -- Alana wandered into the lounge to have some refreshments and listen to the music. She was scouting out the club for any guys who looked like they could show her a good time.

Just be ready to stash 'em if there's any hint of the fuzz.

Ricki had no head for blackjack. That didn't stop her from playing it, obsessively. It was such a thrill, and sometimes she got a lucky Ace to hit just the score she wanted.

More often, though, she busted out.

Good thing she'd brought plenty of money to play with. Now, was there a roulette table around here?

(ANYBODY ELSE WANNA GAMBLE???)

"Whaddya doing here, dollface?" Barry "The Brain" Ween said taking a seat across from Ricki. "Seems to me a girl like you needs to be in a classier joint than this?"

Ricki laughed. "Nice line," she said. "Anyone ever fall for it? I'm taken, buster, so move on. The coat-check girl's a looker."

Ricki had possibly misread his intent, yes.

"A bottle of the good stuff, Pinkie." Kenzi made a gorgeous widow, the kind that made people say how tragic everything was, but at least her dead husband had been happy. "My husband's dead!"

"One bereavement special, coming up," Pinkie said.

Of course that was a special. Have you met this trope?

It was a good trope, a trope you could count on during a stormy night when your husband was suddenly dead and you were all alone and approximately $120 billion dollars richer.

Kenzi dabbed at her eyes with a black lace handkerchief, and sniffed. "Thank you. It was so sudden! He was so young! And beautiful! And we were just married last week!"

It's amazing what you can find doing a search for Pinkie Pie Noir. Most of it is even safe for work!

As long as she cleans up after herself!

With standard disclaimers as to the occasional slow play.
