The Park, Monday Sundown

Feb 17, 2014 22:53

Just like a portal had appeared in the park on Saturday morning, one now appeared late on Monday again. But whereas the first portal had sent children of various ages and parentages tumbling onto the island, this one sent out a call that all said children had to heed.

It was time to say goodbye and go home.

Delay the inevitable! solarhippie February 17 2014, 20:54:17 UTC
Make small talk! Give hugs! Feed the kids all the candy you have left as revenge upon their real parents!

Nat was taking small steps, which was ridiculous when you were almost 16 and had two perfectly functional parents at home waiting for you.

The tiny versions were kind of adorable, though, and he was a bit worried about this Cade kid.

After the awkward start, Jim thought he and Natalie had handled the ball of energy that was their son pretty well. It helped that she'd been through this before and knew what to expect.

Now, it seemed to be time to say goodbye and Nolan didn't seem too fussed. Jim was both relieved and a little sad.

"You know where you're going?"

"Dad, I'm not an idiot," Nolan sighed.

"No, you're not," Natalie agreed. He really wasn't. His parents weren't shabby, either. "You're going to be just fine."

Angela wasn't going to miss this reality.

This town was boring, her father was obviously uncomfortable looking after her, and her dad was a real douche.

She shouldered her way past Alec when he stiffly offered her a hug and stomped through the portal.

Gabe had revealed his identity to a few people, but not to his dad, and he didn't see the point in changing that. He did spot Alec in the crowd of people, looking uncharacteristically awkward, and it made Gabe uncomfortable -- he wasn't one of those teenagers who put his parents on pedestals, but that just wasn't the dad he was familiar with.

He waited until his dad looked preoccupied with the blonde girl with him and slipped through the portal quietly.

Be totally okay with them being gone! solarhippie February 17 2014, 20:55:26 UTC
Or cry. A lot.

Or rejoice by eating all the candy you kept from the kids.
