Just like a portal had appeared in the park on Saturday morning, one now appeared late on Monday again. But whereas the first portal had sent children of various ages and parentages tumbling onto the island, this one sent out a call that all said children had to heed.
It was time to say goodbye and go home.

Jim made a face down at Nolan.

Nolan shrugged. "I'm a Kirk-Adams."

Jim knelt down next to Natalie. "They won't stay mad long if they're mad. I promise."

At least she was assuming their memories of these weekends in Fandom wouldn't just fade away.
"It'll be fine, Nolan, I promise. We promise."

Jim reached out and put his hand on Nolan's shoulder. "You're a good kid. Take after your mom. Never thought I'd see a kid of mine. I'll miss you. I won't speak for Natalie but I bet she'll miss you too."

"We're awesome," he said, sniffling a little. "Don't forget me, okay? I'll see you soon."
