Wellspring Arms & Meditation Center, Thursday

Alex did not foresee much meditation getting done today, what with the...infestation. He'd borrowed a sword from the stock to use in defending the front door of the shop. (Although a golf club might have been about as much use.) He hoped Cable would understand, but how could he not? The dolls were creepyWellspring Arms & Meditation was open, ( Read more... )

And here Cable was on his way down, ready for another quiet day at Fandom--

Or not. Apparently.

"Trouble?"

"There are creepy dolls everywhere," Alex reported. "There's a pile of parts by the front door, and I keep hearing one skittering around somewhere but I haven't found it yet. And most of the island is completely wigged out." Which might not matter to Cable that much, he didn't know, but it definitely mattered to him.

Well, it mattered to Cable on the level that he'd rather not have the whole island completely 'wigged out'.

First things first, though.

"I'll turn up the security system," he said. "If nothing else, we'll smoke this stray one out." He looked at Alex. "Do you need anything bigger than that sword...?"

So no, he didn't mind the borrowing.

"No, I'm good," Alex assured him. Swords were natural to him. From somewhere came the patter of tiny running feet. "See? Creepy."

Cable, being Cable, reached out and took a (rather large) gun from behind the counter. "And we're sure they're attacking?" he said.

"Well, a Barbie told me that math is hard and then went for the jugular on my way in, so..." Alex shrugged. "Pretty much?"

"Fair enough." With a few practiced gestures, he loaded the gun. "I think it's time we make this entire portion of the street doll-free, don't you?"

"Yes, sir!" Alex's smile was broader than most people might consider appropriate for ensuing violence. Alex was not most people.

Much like how it probably wasn't strictly necessary for Cable to use his foot rather than his hand to open the front door, but who cared about details?

Turns out, a doll's head exploded nicely when you put a bullet in it.

"They're literally crawling up the walls," he observed.

Ensuing violence was kind of his thing.

"Can I use the rocket launcher?" Alex asked. Which wasn't really a response to that, as he realized after a second when he added, "Not on the store, obviously."

What? He had an icon for it!

"Too much collateral damage," Cable said, and cast Alex a look. "...Maybe use grenades if we get to the beach, though..."

Then he pointed his giant gun and left a couple of bullet indents in the closest available wall.

Luckily, there were bullets in the dolls now, too.

"Awesome!" Alex said, bouncing on his toes a little.

Then he drew the sword and used it to dispatch a few dolls that were still trying to crawl.

You know, other people might be weirded out by that, Alex...

"But let's clean up the street, first..."

He turned around and thoroughly broke one doll trying to come up on their flanks. "You take the left, I'll take the right."

This was the best day ever. "Can do," Alex agreed, and started slicing dolls apart.

If they weren't so low to the ground it would have been better, but there was one clinging to a lamp post, that was okay.
