Devil's Nest [Tuesday, November 8]

Nov 08, 2011 20:42

So...turned out that when Jack turned the clock back, he'd also turned the clock off.

At least he thought he was on time to work?

He also thought it was Monday, so Jack was perhaps not the most reliable narrator.

The Devil's Nest was open. And confused.

All right, this place hadn't been quite what Susan had thought it was before going inside. But it seemed to fit a theme well enough, and she could appreciate that. She supposed she could stay for a little while.

However her scrutiny of the place meant she was also scrutinizing the bartender. Who appeared to be wearing more eyeliner than was strictly necessary.

"Good. You're working," she said sensibly.

She was of course taking a sip of her drink, though.

"Pouring drinks isn't exactly difficult," Jack replied. "Generally, I captain a ship."

Beat.

"Or run a radio station."

"I would also hope you're not drinking on the job for at least one of those, either," she said.

There was a loooooong pause.

"It's medicinal?"

"Are you asking me or telling me?"

Another pause.

"Yes?"

No, Jack. Incorrect.

Susan just shook her head at him to get that very thing across.

Jack was pretty sure the expression on her face was just how women looked at him, so he shrugged it off.

"How's the drink?"

She sipped it again to be sure of what her opinion on this was exactly. "Strange. It takes a bit like pink and blue mixed together somehow."

"I don't know if I've ever tasted...blue," Jack pondered.

"Can you imagine what blue might taste like?" she asked.

Jack gave the question some serious consideration before nodding. "I believe I can."

"It's like that, but fizzy," she said.

"Interesting," Jack said. "I believe I'll stick to rum."

Be shocked to hear that, Susan.

"I am shocked to hear that," said Susan in the voice of someone who was totally judging.
