She was way too restless to stay still so she wandered around the island, staying carefully away from MCA and certain parts of the beach. After taking care of Effy (who was now a kitten), Alex found himself out for a smoke in the park. He had to do a double take when he spotted Rose because he hadn't seen her in so long.

"I'm not hallucinating, am I?" he asked, deciding that could be his greeting.

"Nah, I'm wondering how she feels about just 'making due," she replied.

"Well, she's a cat right now so feel free to ask her," Alex said, swinging back and forth slightly. "She might even answer you. She just wants tuna fish from me."

"You should give her some shrimp too," Rose decided, having had far too much experience with being a cat. "Variety in the diet'll save her from going after rats."

"...she might bring me rats?" Alex asked, making a face. "Seriously?"

Rose shrugged. "I did. Um. When I was a cat. Not normally." And she'd brought him to Dimitri and he'd given her that Look.

"Not normally?" Alex asked, trying not to smile. "You sure about that? Cuz, I think I saw a rat or two in your room when I was in there. I'm sure of it, even."

Rose reached over to try to thwap Alex's shoulder lightly. "Stop talking about Jack like that," she retorted.

"What does Jack have to do with this?" Alex asked, not even bothering to twitch away from getting thwapped. "Are you insulting the poor boy when he's not even here to defend himself?"

"You're the one calling him a rat," Rose said, unable not to grin a little. "I'm just trying to defend him."

"You're twisting my words," Alex said, waggling a finger back and forth at her for that. "Don't do that or I'll sweep your friend off her feet and marry her and then you'll have to deal with me all the freaking time."

She cracked up in surprise. "Yeah? You think you wanna marry a Princess? Deal with jackass royals all the time?"

"Yeah, why not?" No, not at all. "You can't picture me as royalty?"

"You'd be as good at being royalty as I would," Rose snorted. "Being polite and dealing with all the political bullshit 24/7 for the rest of your life? Ugh."

Even if that pretty much summed up Rose's job minus the royalty part.

"You're making this sound like a challenge, Rose," Alex chided, shaking his head. "I almost feel like I must court her and make it my goal to be the best royal guy there is."

"And I wanna see you do this now," Rose smirked. "You can hang out with Adrian again." And a lot of vampires. That'd be fun, right?
