The Magic Box, Thursday

Call it paranoia, but the shock of turning everybody invisible by accident had Tara keeping far away from anything with actual mojo today. Her time with Kennedy the night before had her less wobbly than she had been, but she still wasn't ready to jump right back on the horse ( Read more... )

Yeah, like Karla wasn't going to take the opportunity to check in on Tara today. She'd stayed away yesterday, because sometimes people just needed a bit of time to themselves, but today was definitely 'Make Sure Tara's Better' day.

"Kiss kiss," she called, poking her head through the door. "Tara, do you have a sec?"

[Vanishing for a few hours, though, sorry!]

"N-n-nothing but seconds," Tara said, albeit a bit reluctantly, as she emerged from the shelves to greet Karla with an apprehensive almost-smile. "Hi. Is everything okay?"

"That's what I came to see," Karla said, giving Tara a smile. "Everything's pretty good on my end."

No second thoughts about yelling on Karla's behalf.

".... really?" Tara said, not quite trusting that smile. "I'm glad and everything, but ... it was a pretty big mistake I made."

Kennedy had an inbox full of emails from Constance (and a handful from her dad, and one belated birthday message from her little sister) to go through, plus a couple of weeks' worth of newspapers to skim for any possible Hellmouth-related news. That would probably be a futile search again, because it always was these days, but it was habit.

She didn't want to be that girl who was all crazy with the hovering, but she had too much of a stupid protective instinct to really want to leave Tara alone all day either, so it seemed like a good compromise to come in with her laptop and work on that inbox-clearing thing in the space between her workout and class. She'd be content to hang out quietly (being tired from working with the bat'leth and her new sword helped with that) for the most part and give Tara her space, but that didn't mean she wasn't going to give her a smile, too, when she came in.

Tara wasn't in an incredibly talky mood either, but she was glad to have Kennedy there. A couple hours into the day, she paused, glancing over at Kennedy's screen.

"It's my lunch break," she said. "I was going to walk over to the Perk -- want me to bring something back for you?"

Most of the emails from Constance had been pretty dry, but the latest missive on her screen, the one that started out Haven't you collected enough weaponry as it is without acquiring a sword that's almost as tall as you are? made Kennedy laugh before she looked up.

"I wouldn't say no to a frozen caramel thing," she agreed then, taking a cue from her suddenly growling stomach, "and maybe a sandwich?"

"Mmmm, that sounds yummy," Tara nodded. "And I think the fresh air will feel good."

She went over to find her purse. "Don't work too hard, 'kay?"

Diana was more than a bit worried about Tara this morning, so she showed up to the Magic Box with a muffins as well as a cat.

"Is someone there?" Tara called, from back in the shelves of teas.

Diana considered making an invisibility joke but then decided that would be tactless. "A cat with some muffins." Diana called out.

"Wow, a talking cat?" Tara said, trying for humor and falling a bit flat. She seemed reserved, even sheepish, as she came out to see Diana. "Hi. Um ... thanks for coming by."
