T&C, Tuesday, 5/11

Didi was back in the shop today, and fussing with the end-of-aisle displays in an effort to get them just so.

Her personal taste in just so lead to some overcrowded displays, full of Disney artifacts, chocolate, and floppy hats, but at least she was keeping herself busy and happy ( Read more... )

Jonas didn't have classes till tomorrow and decided it'd been far too long since he'd gone into town. Stopping into T&C was a new thing for him, a new business to explore and he was grateful to see a familiar face behind the counter when he wandered in.

"Hello, Didi," he said, smiling as he padded closer. "I didn't know you worked here. Of course, I hadn't asked so there was no way for me to know."

[I was writing this before she pinged into SoTC so go me with my psychicness!]

"Hey, Jonas," Didi said, smiling easily as she adjusted a tiara on a Snow White doll. "I've been here ... pretty much all year. It doesn't come up much, but it's not a bad way to spend a Tuesday. What brought you in?"

"My own boredom with staying in my room," he said, eyes glancing around the store idly, taking in what he saw, what he knew and what was unfamiliar. "I don't think I've ever been in here so today seemed like a good enough day to fix that."

"Well, we have about everything," Didi said, following where his eyes were going. "Pretty much if you can think of it, it's here. Except duct tape. I'm not sure why not duct tape."

Yes, Del was having some Snickerdoodle. Dancing Snickerdoodle people.

But first... "Do you have snickerdoodle doggies? Or fishies? Fishies would be great."

"Only Snickerdoodle drinks," Didi said, gesturing to the Squishy machine. "Well, and cookies. Regular cookies."

She considered Del fondly. "How come fish?"

Well, that was moderately disappointing, but she wasn't about to tell Didi how to run the business. "Regular cookies probably have some identity crisis then. It's like, um, you ask one who he or she is, and you only get 'well, I'm just a cookie' Born a cookie, met another cookie, had little biscuits, and died a cookie." Delirium shrugged at the squishy machine.

"Fishies could swim in there. Um, little fishies, big fishies." She could almost see them..."What's a snickerdoodle anyway?"

"Maybe it's what they dream about," Didi suggested. "Maybe all cookies really want is to have little cookies and get eaten."

"Snickerdoodles are like sugar cookies with cinnamon on the outside," she added. "It's not bad, as a drink. Try one." A beat. "Not the one that says people. That's ... Apu's sense of humor."

Apu, who was mopping the floor, raised his head slightly and shook it. He didn't pick the specials.

Scully was... almost convinced that it was 2010 here on the island. If it was, well, then technology had to have advanced a decade. Right?

...right. She'd be over here, boggling at the computers and iPhones, and seriously coveting a Netbook.

Didi gave a slight smile to the short, redheaded girl. "You look like a woman in need of something new and shiny."

Scully looked up, rueful expression feeling like it was going to take up permanent residence. "That obvious, hunh?" She gestured almost helplessly at the computer section and said, "Ten years' gap. I guess. And my laptop was top of the line, but now? Look at all this. I don't even know where to start." It was dismaying! And unfair! And that little Netbook came in red!

[and I flee for work!]

"I have a good eye for it," Didi told her. "I'm not really a techie, but I think you should try out the red netbook and see how it feels."

There were times when knowing everyone really well helped her do her job. This might be one of them.
