The Park; Monday Afternoon.

Aug 25, 2008 16:50

It wasn't unusual for Adah to be ready for what she needed to do before it needed to be done or, in this current situation, before she could do it. Most of her things had been shipped for convenience, so Adah sat at the base of a tree in the park with one simple, small suitcase beside her and a notebook in her lap. She had a bit still until her ( Read more... )

It wasn't that Lee didn't wanna do this, it was that...he didn't want to do this at all.

But.

He smiled as he wandered over and closer, saying, "If you're trying to hide, up the tree would be better."

Adah gave a faint smile back as she glanced up from her current sketch of several squirrels skewered with vegetables like a kabob. "Yeah," she said, even though there were times when she'd done it in Africa, spying whenever she could out of boredom, "because we both know me to be a big tree climber. I'm not trying to hide, anyway, just....kill some time. Funny, isn't it? How something seems like it's coming at you way too fast and then, once you know it's coming, it seems to take forever to finally actually hit?"

"I never really think about the time," he admitted. "Not like that, at least. And I really don't wanna think about the time today."

"One could argue," Adah said, lightly with a faint smile to show that she was mostly joking; mostly, "that you never really think at all." She laid her pencil down on her sketchbook, settling her hands on top of it before nodding toward the patch of grass beside her. "Sit?" she asked. "I've still got some time before I need to be at the causeway."

Murdock was out walking Houston when he spied someone under the tree. Someone he recognized. He wandered over and offered a quiet, "Hello Adah."

Adah blinked a few times at her paper (the outlines of charcoal squirrels clutching their stomachs in agonizing pain from a few too many meals of rat poison) before she lifted her head; promptly, it tilted in curiosity for the fact that, despite her usually good memory, she didn't think she immediately recognized this person who clearly recognized her.

He smirked a little at her. "You probably don't recognize me like this, do ya? Last time you saw me I was a lot younger."

"Murdock." He grinned a bit more, "Or rather...HM. Nice to finally meet ya. Again."

Adah blinked again at the man once before her eyes widened slightly. It was the only sign of realization that she made, and it was a small one at that. "Of course. Murdock. I take it," her eyes pointedly went toward his feet, "your ankle is better?"

Karal was simply walking, and thinking, Altra padding along beside him, and he stopped when he saw Adah. "Hello, Adah," he said hesitantly, unsure about disturbing her.

All Karal would be interrupting was a rather lovely little cartoon in three panels of a squirrel realizing all too late that he was about to spontaneously combust. That was, of course, fairly important, but not important enough to stave off a chance to say good-bye to him after all. Her plans to visit him at the library were a little trashed by a lack of desire to leave her bed and, more importantly, what was in it all last week.

She glanced up, giving him a small, careful nod. "Karal."

He smiled and nodded back, head tilting as Altra studied the suitcase. "You're leaving?" he asked, smile fading slightly.

Adah eyed Altra a little warningly as he studied the suitcase, but, for the most part, her attention went into another small nod, into Karal. "My cab should be here in a few hours," she explained. "Classes start Wednesday."

Toby waved to Lee's girlfriend, "Hey Lee's girlfriend!" He wasn't one hundred percent sure about her name. Also, it was true and the way he thought of her.

Adah winced a little at the address as she finished the quick marks of the bushy tail of a squirrel dangling from a small noose. She closed her eyes and took in a deep breath before acknowledging Toby with a response; the fact that she was leaving made her a little more congenial to the label, as did the fact that, well, this was not only one of the Eel's friends (which he'd probably need pretty badly now, the dependable little fool), but she also now knew that Toby dated a guy who seemed nearly as idiotic, if not more so, than himself.

"It's Adah," she reminded him with a pointed arch of her brow.

"Right, Adah." He'd thought it was Anna. Huh. "What's up? You like an artist now?"

Adah gave a passing glance down at her current masterpiece and shook her head slightly. "Just a bit of a doodler," she admitted, although her work was fairly passable on a certain level. "Killing some time, mostly. Have you ever noticed that, when you build up to something, it seems like it comes at you really quickly until a certain point and then, from there, it seems to just crawl and stretch out, as if, no matter how far you stretch out, it seems like you'll never grasp it?"
