Luke's Diner; Wednesday [ 04/16 ]

Apr 16, 2008 10:18

A.J. was in a good mood today, which meant that A.J. was busy drawing up a storm in his sketchbook. Most of the work, however, was turning out to be ideas on the redecoration of the diner, to propose to Lacey hopefully soon. He hoped that she had a lot more drive and ambition than some one like he had, otherwise, by the time she got around to ( Read more... )

"No," A.J. said, catching on after a moment and lowering his head while glaring playfully at Annette through the hair that fell over his eyes. "I don't share milkshakes with procrastinators. This present better be pretty good for all this build-up, you know."

Annette had to laugh. "Okay, it's not much, seriously. Just a little something I thought might be... fun. Here." She handed him the bag.

"And if you don't like it," she added quickly before he could open it. "Just give it to me and I will, uh... just give it back!"

A.J. eyed Annette a little bit at the 'uh...' but just smirked it off as he went to open the bag, noticed the brush first, and started commenting, "Ooh, more pai--" And then he managed to get the jar out for a look and cut himself off with a rather quick flood of red to his cheeks. "Or not quite paint. Heh." He ducked his head, the grin on his face almost more difficult to control than the blushing.

"I thought you said this was a present for me, Annette, not you," he added with a chuckle, wagging an eyebrow at her just a little.

And still blushing uncontrollably as he discretely put the gift back into the bag for now.

She held her hands together, looking hopeful, despite his blush. "But you like it? Right? And it is a gift for you," she said but then... "Or well wait... I guess that depends on how you look at it, huh? You could paint me and paint me well with something really pretty... " okay, she was blushing now. "But then I could paint you and you would get to enjoy the benefit of it because I imagine it feels... nice."

Okay, yeah, the blush wasn't going away any time soon, but, then again, neither were the thoughts in A.J.'s head that were emboldening him with suggestions. "I imagine it feels even better coming off than it does going on," he commented, cheeks on fire, but keeping a steady gaze across the counter towards Annette, and he bit his lower lip a little, rather wishing he wasn't at work right now.

Oh dear. She hadn't counted on blushing or seeing him blush so attractively when she came in with her surprise for him. And now her thoughts were probably somewhere close to his as she gazed back at him, blinking slowly, eyes dipping to his mouth as he bit his lower lip. "I imagine that it would, yes... feel good and taste... oh."

Annette dropped her gaze; he was at work and she was practically ready to jump across the counter. She drank her milkshake and tried to calm her heated cheeks.

A.J. grinned a little, dropping his head just a moment as Annette dropped hers. She seemed a little surprised, he thought, like she hadn't actually expected a reception like this when she brought the gift in. Part of him wondered how she couldn't have, and then the other part of him was just even more tantalized by the thought that she hadn't. Blushing still strong, he couldn't help commenting, "Definitely a good surprise gift. I have been itching to work in a bit of a new medium, you know, and I'm always good with a brush. Even better with...well...you know..."

He certainly hoped she could guess, anyway.

Well, considering she's never done anything like this before, maybe she was slightly embarrassed to have given it to him, but she seriously thought they could just have fun. But...

Omigod he was wicked! Teasing her like that, making her think... putting pictures in her head, seeing him paint and then.... "Oh dear," she whispered a little breathlessly. "Oh my... "

Hey, now, the present was her idea; A.J. was not going to be guilted into feeling devious just because of a few blushes and whispered exultations.

"Whaaaaat?" he asked innocently.

It took Annette a moment to think of something to say that wasn't 'Let's go, right now', so she took another sip of her milkshake and tried for calm.

She hoped her expression showed that when she asked about as innocent as she could, "So, when do you think you might like to try this new medium?"

"Well, I don't know," A.J. smirked back. "I've got such a busy schedule..."

"Yeah," she nodded, thinking him serious. She actually had to look back down again. Great. He probably thought she wanted to have at that chocolate right away. "Me too..." she chuckled, though the sound seemed a bit nervous maybe, forced. "I might have to bathe my cat again. Dust. Something..."

A.J.'s eyebrow lifted slightly; was she starting to get awkward about it? Didn't she used to be so much better about taking a joke, or was that just him?

He stuck with the joking, because that was what he was good at.

"You're choosing bathing you cat over me?" he deadpanned.

She looked up. Blinked. Opened her mouth then promptly shut it.

...

"You were teasing me," not a question. "Man! I should have known, but I get all flustered sometimes and then my mind goes in all sorts of directions and I would never ever would pick bathing my cat over painting chocolate on your body. As if."

A.J. grinned a little more. "Who says you're painting anything?" he asked. "I'm the artist over here..."
