So over the past two weeks on the island, Rebecca hadn't really done very much. Did some work for her classes, rearranged the furniture in her room and taken over part of Matt's closet... normal fun stuff. But she'd come to the conclusion that it was time to start networking with people. Forming alliances, as it were ( Read more... )

Darcy was enjoying boarding school life. She only had to venture out of her room when she wanted to. This happened to be one of those times. And there was food.

"Awesome, Italian." She made a detour from the stairs and headed for the food.

"Hey there!" Rebecca said, doing an excellent job of passive-aggressively masking her slight bristling at Darcy's lack of greeting. "Rebecca Logan. Nice to meet you."

Such an excellent job, that Darcy didn't even notice. "Darcy Lewis, same here. Oh. Is this your food?" The realization came a few minutes late.

"Yep! You're welcome to help yourself," Rebecca assured her, gesturing to the spread. Just as long as she got face time so people would associate her with the delicious food. "It's from handwavy fancy restaurant. Really good stuff."

Rilla was famished, so after Jims went down (for the night, Lord willing), she headed to a common room in search of something to eat.

"That smells divine," she said as she walked into the common room, then spotted the girl who seemed to be responsible for the food.

...oh dear. She moved closer. "I think you've lost a few buttons on your blouse," she whispered earnestly.

"I was thinking that myself," Dorothy said, careful not to raise her voice too much. "Do they not make good buttons now? I'm still getting used to the idea that I'm in the future."

She thought buttons would be something hard to make poorly, yet the evidence seemed to say otherwise.

"When are you from?" Rilla asked excitedly. "I'm from almost 1915."

"That's even more recent than me," Dorothy said. "I'm from Kansas, 1903." She curtsied in greeting. "And my name is Dorothy, it's very nice to meet you."

"Oh, hello," Anna said upon wandering into the common room on the floor above hers and finding...wow, that was a lot of people. And food. "Am I interrupting something?"

"Nope! Come on in," Rebecca said brightly, waving Anna in. "Help yourself!"

"Oh, no thank you," Anna said, bringing one arm across her body to grip her opposite elbow in a slightly defensive nervous gesture. "I'm not hungry." She dredged up a smile and tried, "More for everybody else, right?"

"I guess," Rebecca said, giving her an odd look. SHE HAD WORKED HARD ON THIS FOOD, OKAY. "Want some sparkling cider or something?"

Kenzi went up a floor after work to see what was up, and blinked when she saw the fancy Italian food. "Who sprung for this?"

"I think it was her," Anna said, gesturing to Rebecca.

Anna did not have any food.

"Hello, Kenzi. How have you been?"

"Ear-wormed by 'Camptown Races'," Kenzi complained, then flopped down and picked up a plate without checking with anyone. "Stupid zombies. Is this any good?" She took a bite, eyebrows going up. "Mmmmm."

Anna was about to say she hadn't eaten any so she wouldn't know, but Kenzi's reaction settled that. "I'll take that as a yes," she said with a small smile.
